Hello and welcome to Akaman's blog. The most family-friendly, safe and appropriate blog on the interweb. Enjoy your stay.

Trails Of Cold Steel 3. I am 50+ in and I am starting to really dislike this game. Forget what I said last Monday, this game is bad. The story is incoherent, the characters are wooden and everything else is just... bland. There are plenty of great moments, but about 70% is just bad.

Angelica is a good example. I was never a big fan of her's, but in the previous games she was well written, I really did care for her story arc. Here she acts like a complete dolt hitting in EVERY girl in a completely ridiculous manner. That's it. That's her whole story now: she hits on girl a lot. The end.

Same goes to everyone else. In the first game even NPC characters had their story arcs - if you talked to them during every free day you could observe them evolve and grow and progress through their own stories. Here NPCs are just NPCs that say random stuff. And main characters barely have any personality apparat from the stereotypes they represent.

The first game felt like a fun anime with a very grounded story and well-built world. Small events were well written and when something big happened it was amazing. There was barely any magic, or any other bullshit.

That being said ToCS3 still has a lot of great moments. (I never seen a JRPG character actually flip a bird before). But in comparison to the first (and even second) game it just falls flat. I don't care about the new characters, old characters act like idiots, nothing makes sense and at times I am literally forcing myself to keep on playing. -_-

The work. This week was spent on coloring CGs. Still not done. Not gonna lie -- I am getting really fed up with this long development times. I need to make some sort of changes in the way I create things... But not until ep12 is out.

That's about it. See you all next Monday.

I had heard 3rd was the black sheep of the family, yes. A chore to ram through, I suppose. Cheats on, turbo at max, all hopes on the 4th one.

Stuff takes time and quality stuff even more. All ppl of culture who know your work I am sure, totally respect and trust your workflow. So take your time, enjoy the process and never feel bad about how long it takes ;)

>I am getting really fed up with this long development times As a regular player I don't mind your way of working on things including long develompnet times. You don't set any deadlines and don't break any promises, so everything's cool. Just keep it up, sensei :) As a fellow dev I totally feel you. In my short career I learned that long development cycles are so damn frustrating and demotivating 😭Hang on there Aka, you did this before, you can do it again...

Take a deep breath, say one om and enjoy the moment.

Isn't that story pretty much what we got in 90% of ... "family friendly totally legit"... games? Chickens like me, we always try to cross the road, while human always try to.... run over us i guess (except Russians people , who always try to run over the road. Real challenge for them XD). That wasn't a totally racist and disrespectfull joke about russian peoples at all :P (Just a joke , a shitty one.. Heh! What else to expect from me? XD)

simon22

What would you guys consider the best game in the trails series?

Never been a game dev, but I've been a beta tester. Quality takes time. Take all you need. Family friendliness is in too short supply these days. 😁

Try to not let the development times get to you man, you are a team of one developing pretty good games, quality products take time, you can't rush these things and make them amazing. Keep up the good work my favorite family friendly internet creator!

I miss Akabur.

"I am getting really fed up with this long development times." Carful, that's what EA said when they killed 14 studios. You're just one man comrade, you're genius and hands can only work so fast. Plus, we're all getting older, and with age comes back pain, sleeping more, and worse yet, more taxes!

Trevor Bond

To be fair, long development times come from plenty of ambition in a project....

Yeah, CS3 can be a bit rough in places, especially with the new class, though Juna and Ash get to be pretty cool (unfortunately Kurt's just kinda there in 4 and I never liked Musse for how fake she feels). Also, I agree they hammed Angela's lesbianism up way too much in this one (and then there's the really awkward scene of Towa saying she could see Angela end up Georg...). One thing I really like about it though is that you get to go all the places the other group in CS1 and seeing where the various misc students ended up after graduating.

akabur

Damn, this feels rather therapeutic to see that somebody else had pretty much the same experience with the game I am having right now -_- Completely agree on Kurt, and yes, Musse did became rather tiresome over time. And yes, that scene with Towas talking about Angela and Georg was just odd. And yes, meeting the old faces is definitely a highlight of ToCS3 for me so far.

akabur

I know. It's a constant battle between the desire to add more content and having to do compromises.

akabur

Agreed. Our world needs more family friendly content now more then ever.

akabur

For me it was the first one. Although I am yet to play the forth.

akabur

I wish it was that easy. You are absolutely right of course though...

Sorry about CS3 being a bust ( never played but I’ll take your hard review to heart ) I hope you get some rest and play between your breaks
