A lucky break for Jian, there, in keeping with the genre. I wonder about the lotus, though. What kept the beasts from taking it? Or maybe I'm just paranoid about mythical lotuses every since I read the Odyssey. That seems just as likely, honestly.

As practical as Jian vivisecting the demonic wolf is, and as much as I agree with it, it still makes me nervous. There's something of a fairytale quality to the society and the culture of Jian's world and people who cut open still living creatures for their experiments tend to have a very specific role in such tales.
