Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on a few things:
(1) The $1000 goal reward is no longer three chapters a week.
The lockdown has given me a pretty good sense of my maximum writing rate. Basically, I can do three chapters maximum on a good week. If I want to leave any kind of buffer for commissions, stockpiling, and possibly having a bad week, I can't commit to three chapters every week.
It feels a little cocky to be talking about hitting $1000 as a real possibility, but I just wanted to be clear about what you guys can expect. If you only signed up out of the hopes of hitting the $1000 goal, I appreciate your optimism, but I just can't promise that volume of production.
(2) What is a chapter?
The amount that I am committed to write per the $250 commitment is two chapters. For me, a chapter is a complete story chunk as you would read it in a printed book, and will be between 4,000 and 6,000 words. I will write two of those chunks per week.
However, those chunks might be posted a little differently. Royal Road is set up to reward short chapters and punish long chapters. I'm not going to go crazy gaming the system, but I will probably break my chapters in half for posting on Royal Road.
Please don't take these short "chapters" as me weaseling around my commitment. Each big chunk of mini-chapters will be posted together, and the whole 4k-6k word chunk will count as one chapter for the purpose of the commitment.
The read ahead bonus will be put in terms of the RR chapters, so the terminology may get confusing, but the bottom line is that I'll be writing the same volume of words.
(3) Discord is here to stay
After three days I'm solidly addicted to Discord, so I'm going to keep it around. I'd like to keep it patron only, and I will as long as its seeing use.
If it gets completely dead I'll shift over to the model with a patrons only channel and invite the general audience, but I'd rather not have to do that. It would only be if there are no new comments on there from anybody but me for multiple weeks.
