Eric and Karl's double life has been revealed, and now each of them must face the truth of what that desception truly means...

Blitzkrieg blinked, half expecting The Phantom Fox to be gone when he did.

But Eric remained, solid and pressed against his chest, the slender fox’s weight nothing against the brawny wolf’s body. A chill ran down Karl’s spine as he stared into the fox's eyes, as the implications began to play out in his mind at lightning speed. He had been… seeing a super criminal. A well-known and connected super criminal knew everything about him, where he lived, and his identity, even who his daughter was… Eric had baby sat for Frida. The fox knew everything.

And they were embracing, as if they were lovers, in the middle of a god damn police station right after a genuine super villain attacked the city. Attacked on Blitzkrieg’s own victory parade no less!

Blitzkrieg opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. His arms loosened their grip on the fox, and he tried again, finally stammering out the word, “How?”

Phantom fox glanced to the side, eyes not meeting the bigger wolf’s gaze. “I learned who you were by putting a tracker in your boot, buried inside the sole where you couldn’t find it. I followed you home over a year ago.” The fox’s ears folded back, and he looked ashamed for once. “I've been... watching you ever since.”

Blitzkrieg’s arms fell to his sides. It felt like everything was collapsing, like the world was spinning around him, and he felt his stomach heave as he thought through what the fox had just admitted. “You've been in my apartment? You've...” The wolf growled, paws balling into fists, livid beyond words. “You've been following me. Stalking me for a year?”

“Yes,” the fox’s head jerked up at the wolf’s angry tone, but his ears stayed swept back. “I have been following you, living unseen as your shadow, for over a year.”

“You moved in next door!” Karl growled, his fists raised and charged to make sure the fox didn’t come any closer. “That’s hardly ‘unseen’, why… why would you do that Eric?”

“Because I wanted you, idiot!” the fox snapped, “Didn’t you catch all my hints? All those times we happened to meet? Didn’t you notice I stopped stealing things months ago? Hell Blitz, I gave most of it back, because I finally had what I wanted. You!” the red fox raised a paw, trying to touch Blitzkrieg's muzzle, but the wolf jerked his head back so fast that the rest of him blurred, putting a foot of distance between them.

“And so now you what, just cause things aren’t going fast enough for you, you attack me with Schmeterling, just so you could save me and reveal yourself? You could have exposed me! You knew, knew who would be at the parade!” Blitzkrieg, even now, couldn’t bring himself to say his daughter’s name while in costume.

The fox's smug smile vanished, and Phantom looked like Blitzkrieg had slapped him. “What? I didn't know that little idiot would be there!”

“How else could you know where to be to save me!” the wolf snapped,

“I was on your parade float already!” the vulpine growled back, “I’m always on your floats! Every time, every parade, I stand right beside you! You think I would work with that miniature psycho?” The fox threw his arms in the air, stalking through the room, ignoring the large table in the middle of it. “I live with you for a year, I become your friend, I finally get you to open up, after all this time, I save your life, and this is how you react!”

Karl gaped at Phantom as the fox ranted, his mind still racing at the ramifications. A year? The fox had been watching him for a whole year? How was that possible? He would have known, he would have sensed if somebody was lingering in his apartment for that long. Even when insubstantial the fox had a scent. Karl must have seen or sensed something that… told him…

…and then it hit the wolf like a brick to the snout. Karl’s mind locked up as he flashed back to the rash of wet dreams and sensations he'd felt during the night over the last year. The strange underwear he'd never bought, and the disappearance of some he had. The wolf's stomach heaved, and he almost threw up as he flattened himself against the wall. Phantom stopped dead, staring at Blitzkrieg in surprise and coming to see if he was alright.

Phantom’s paw touched Blitzkrieg’s cheek, lifting his head up. Karl stared into the fox’s worried eyes. “No… no you couldn’t... you were in my bed?” Blitzkrieg asked in disbelief. He didn’t want to believe it was possible, but Karl could see the look in Phantom's eyes, and the guilty look on the fox’s face told him everything he needed to know. “You... You ... you did things to me in my sleep?”

Phantom reached out with his other paw, but the jolt of electricity that ran through the wolf's body forced Phantom Fox backwards, even though he was completely insubstantial now. Phantom shook his head, dazed for a moment before his eyes focused on the bigger wolf. “Yes, I did,” the fox admitted bitterly, knowing there was no point in lying. “I'm a bastard and a pervert, but I shouldn’t have done that, I’m sorry.” The fox’s ears lifted, and his expression hardened. But I do care about you. And I couldn't let that puny horse hurt you, just like I wouldn’t let anyone hurt Freda, not ever.”

Blitzkrieg’s growing fury froze at his daughter's name, and his voice became low and vicious, “If you ever go near her again...”

“You'll what?” The fox spat. “Beat me up for saving her life? Or would you prefer she had died in that alleyway last month, when those psycho neo-Nazis Power Puma stirred up nearly got her?” Phantom glared daggers at the wolf now, and he pointed at the wolf’s nose. “I followed her around for weeks making sure nothing happened to her. Don't you forget that Karl!” Blitzkrieg flinched again as the fox used his name, his real honest to god name. “I have known everything about you for almost a year now, and all I've done is watch and given you a few happy dreams. Do you think there was anything in the world that could have stopped me if I had wished to hurt her? I stopped those men who attacked Frida because of you. Because if she got hurt…” Phantom's voice broke, and he gulped for air, his outstretched paw shaking, “because if she got hurt, you would be devastated, and I couldn't stand watching that.”

Blitzkrieg stared at him, his mouth open slightly. The silence between them was filled with the quiet bustle of the police station. “What the hell do you want?” Blitzkrieg asked angrily. “What are you doing all this for? Pretending to be a friendly neighbor? Protecting my daughter? Why god damn it!”

Phantom Fox's ears splayed backwards, his muzzle dipping in disappointment. “Hell Karl, can't you tell?”
