Chapter 7

MAYUMI SAEGUSA

Mayumi was beginning to get a headache as she watched Mari glare at Inei-kun, who was smirking, basically advertising his own enjoyment as they gathered in the Student Council office to discuss the matter.

“He is lying. He used magic. Everyone saw it, some kind of mental interference magic or some other thing,” Morisaki-kun said, leveling the accusation. She turned towards Inei-kun, who scoffed.

“Like I would need to use magic on you,” he said as he turned towards her.

“I deny these accusations, and have presented a student as witness. As much as it may not seem that way, I need to get my beauty sleep in, so could you please wrap this up quickly,” he requested as he yawned, pissing her friend Mari off more than she already was.

And she saw Shiba Miyuki’s lips turn up as she slapped her head, shaking her head. And she would have done the same if not for her image as the school student council president.

“He has more witnesses, and we still have not gotten to the point. On how Shiba-kun could tell whether you cast any magic or not,” Mari cut in.

“Because he can read activation sequences,” Inei-kun’s statement drew gasps from everyone in teh room as Mari scoffed.

“That’s impossible, no on...”

“He can, Shiba...” Inei-kun cut in as he raised his hand, and she saw magic activate as a magic sequence appeared.

“Light-Type simple Interference magic, Magnificance,” and she watched as, in the next moment, a hole was burnt in the wooden desk from the magic Inei-kun had cast.

And it was indeed magnificence, a light-type magic that was used to concentrate light at a single point. She watched as everyone in the room turned towards Shiba Tatsuya, the first-year boy who had gained a perfect score on the engineering section of the exam.

“And there you have it,” Inei-kun said as he looked at Mari.

“He is lying. This is a setup. He is trying to undermine me....” and Inei-kun shook his head.

“I don’t care about you enough to undermine you. Damn, I don’t even remember your name,” he said, and she saw Morisaki-kun get angry as he reached for his CAD.

“Morisaki-kun,” she admonished the boy as she also turned towards Inei kun.

“Would you please stop antagonizing your classmate, Inei-kun,” she said, and he shrugged.

“I will try,” and she rolled her eyes as she turned towards Mari.

“Inei-kun is right, Miyuki cut in,” as she stepped forward.

“He did not use any magic, and as my brother demonstrated, he can indeed read magical sequences. Inei-kun did not use any magic at all,” she added and that was it, and Mari knew it as well.

“Then what was that if not magic?” Mari questioned.

“Why was Morisaki-kun on his knees?” she added as she glared at Inei-kun.

“Like this,” and in an instant, his expression shifted from the lazy and weary boy to one of an ominous diety as the room became suffocating.

THUMP. THUMP.

It took all her self-control not to fall of the chair as Inei-kun stood there, his eyes glowing again.

“That would be enough, Yotsuba-san,” and then the pressure vanished, and she was surprised as she saw Yotsuba-kun had walked up to Inei-kun and had placed his hand on his shoulder, and she felt that she could breathe again as the pressure vanished.

Their eyes met, and she was surprised as Inei-kun shrugged as Shiba Tatsuya turned towards her and Mari-san.

“As he just showed, that was not magic,” he claimed.

“Then what was that!” Mari roared as sweat dripped from her forehead, and she was curious about the same thing as well.

“Psions,” Tatsuya-kun answered, and she was taken aback by the answer.

“Yotsuba-san simply pushed his psions out of his body, filling the area around him with them, causing what is known as psion overload. This is not magic, for it does not imply any activation sequence or magical sequence at all and does not alter anything. One can simply compare this to shouting and screaming in a way, and I doubt that this council can punish someone for that,” Shiba-kun’s explanation had one major flaw.

The whole magical community was intrigued by this new Yotsuba and his prowess, and yet merely a glimpse of it had them on their edge. She knew about psion overload and had heard about it, yet she also knew of the sheer amount of psions needed to cause it, and Inei-kun had done it singlehandedly.

Just how much psion capacity did he have?

“He is right,” she began as Mari turned towards her.

“By the definition of our rules, Inei-kun used no magic, and he cannot be punished,” she declared and saw Morisaki-kun rage.

“He is lying. He used magic. This is all a trick. And how the hell can we trust the words of a wee...”

“How about we make a little wager, loudmouth-kun,” Inei-kun turned towards Morisaki, who was red-faced and angry.

“You have been nominated to join the disciplinary committee, right,” he asked, and she looked towards Mari, who nodded.

“Yes, after your refusal, his name was recommended,” and for good reason, Morisaki-kun’s marks and his family’s special ‘quick-draw’ were both very suited for the disciplinary committee.

“I bet Shiba-kun can beat you,” Inei-kun challenged as she saw everyone perk up at those words as Morisaki-kun scoffed.

“You think a wee..a course two student like him can defeat me. You are a fool,” he taunted.

“Ohh, then how about this. If he wins, you will give your place on the council to Shiba-kun, and if you win...” and with that he stepped forward.

“...then I will withdraw from the school in disgrace...” she rose to her feet.

“Inei-kun!”

“I accept,” Morisaki-kun shouted.

“Inei-kun, this is not a fair wager. I cannot...”

“Mayumi-san,” he cut in.

“Didn’t you tell me yourself that you abhor this culture of weed and bloom, of discrimination?” he cut in, and she was taken aback by those words, for indeed she had told him of her vision when they had met a few days ago.

“And yet, in the three years you have been a part of this council, along with your friends, you have done little to change this,” he said, and she was taken aback by that critique, and on second thought, he was right.

What had she done to change things?”

“Now, I am giving you an opportunity to do it. By making a second-course student a part of the Disciplinary committee, you can take the first step toward your dream,” and she was taken aback by his words.

What he was doing for her vision, whether it was deliberate or part of a grander plot, mattered little, for he was raising it all for a simple dream of her own.

“But still, wagering your own career and life on something like th...” and he waved away her concerns as he smiled, and looked towards her.

“Do not worry about that. If you think the stakes are too low, how about we add a date with you as a prize for me as well, if I win the wager that is,” he said, and the whole room became still as his words took a second to register.

“WHATTTTT!”

INEI YOTSUBA

A crowd had gathered for the dual between Morisaki-kun and Shiba Tatsuya, and unlike the rest two people were not all concerned about the duel and its outcome at all, the only two in the entire room fully aware of Shiba Tasuya’s powers.

“I must thank you, Inei-kun,Miyuki began as she stood beside him.

“I have long wished to have my brother given the credit he deserves, even today I fought for him to be given my spot on the Student Council but failed, yet you have given him an opportunity that I could not and for that I am grateful,” she said as he gave him a small bow.

“Maa Maa, do not worry about it. I had my own purpose in doing this,” he said as he looked towards Morisaki.

“If that idiot had gotten onto the disciplinary committee, he would have tried to make my life hell, and this way, instead of talking about me, the whole school will be talking about how a course two student beat a course one student,” he replied. That was one reason he had done this, and another was that he simply did not like people like Morisaki.

Haughty people who thought too highly of themselves while having nothing to their names.

“Well, regardless, I am thankful,” she said and walked towards Tatsuya. He hoped to motivate him as the Council president walked towards him while rubbing his head.

“Did you really have to cause so much trouble on the first day, Inei-kun,” she complained, and he shrugged.

“Blame that loudmouth and your own friend. I am innocent,” he replied shamelessly, and she shook her head.

“And unlike me, you are not even worried about Tatsuya-kun losing. The Morisaki are known for their lightning-fast ‘quick draw’ technique. I doubt anyone in this whole school would be able to cast magic as fast as him in the first years,” and he raised a brow.

“Apart from you, of course,” and then her eyes turned towards Miyuki.

“And her, maybe,” she added.

“Tatsuya will not lose. Even if it was your Vice president, the infamous Hattori-san, Tatusya would be able to defeat him rather easily,” he replied fully aware of just how dangerous of a magician Tatsuya was.

“Easily you say,” she confirmed as she looked at him with a narrowed gaze.

“Yeah, easily,” he replied as the two prepared for the duel.

“And what about you?” she suddenly asked.

“What if he was facing? Would he be able to beat you,” he turned towards her.

“Nah, I would win,” he replied as Mari Watanabe raised her hand after telling them both the rules.

“On my mark, get set,” she began.

“Maa, Inei-kun, how do you know so much about Tatsuya-kun,” she asked.

“Ohh, because I am friends with Miyuki-san,” he lied as Mari Watanabe brought down her hand.

“Start!”

“I will show you,” Morisaki roared as his CAD lit up, and then in an instant.

BOOM!

“ARGH!” he was sent, tumbling back into the wall, as Tatsuya stood right infront of where Morisaki stood before.

“That should answer your question,” he said to Mayumi, who was looking at Tatsuya wide-eyed.

“What the hell was that!” she gasped out.

“That was me winning...” he replied as she turned towards him.

Thanks for the chapter! Can’t wait for more. Also, what are his exact powers? Does he truly have domain expansion or just emulating it with Psions?
