Once again I reach out to you my fellow lovers of the adult side of art for feedback, thoughts, advice and probably some scolding... ;)

I've been running this Patreon since December 2018 and the most patrons I've had are about 500, and so far this month we're at 422. Now, this is better than some, but also way less than many other artists... So, why is that? Why aren't I getting over 1k Patrons each month? What seems to be the secret sauce behind those more successful Patreons? What do you feel I should do in order to gain more followers? Is my stuff simply not cute enough? Needs more contents? I see other artists doing only like 1-2 drawings per month and are crushing it... One do get a bit frustrated I must say.... ;)

I would say more content can help and you don't need to make your style cutesy. It's hot. I would love to see more original characters from you. But overall you have been knocking it out of the park.

Stevolteon

It could just be exposure - I only found you randomly (looking for Crusher/Troi porn) but as soon as I saw your stuff I was hooked on your style. Might be worth posting your stuff in more different places?

Chris

Just my opinion but could b cuz u do futa wit every pic and not everyone is into that so could inadvertently havin ppl think of u as futa only creator

YUYUMFDOOM

I think your doing fine as is i just think not enough people know about your work twitter can only do so much especially when people don't want others to know what there into everyone has an image these days lol

A lot of the artists you're referring to draw softcore porn or very vanilla nudity, which has a much wider appeal. The downside is that a lot of it tends to be rather soulless (everyone is trying to be the next sakimichan). You have a specific focus in art which might not be for everyone, but I personally prefer it over cheap mass appeal. It makes your art recognizable and have way more personality. I second the idea to try drawing more original characters or personal projects. More rough wips would be a great addition to your timeline as well. It doesn't have to be refined or closely explained, just random scribbles would suffice for people that want to know more of your work process.

I get the frustration 100%. Trend chasing is usually decent for gaining a following, when there's a big hub-ub about some character, doing art of them will get it to more eyes. More content always helps, but don't want to stretch yourself too thin. Depends what angle you're coming at this from I guess, if it's wanting to get more eyes or wanting to get more Patrons. Doing commissions and works for OCs would help on the monetary front, since rather than a handful of new followers you're instead getting more direct cash from folks, and then the patron is a bonus on top of that.

Honestly, among all the artists on here, you’re consistent and good at what you do, which is why I stay. You’re the only one that draws that I pay monthly. Others might have a huge project that earn them a lot of subs the month of said project being done, but your consistency is much more worthwhile to me and it’s a much better investment personally.

Geeko170

I wouldn't concern myself with what other artists are doing. Do what you enjoy. We have all heard the saying “do what you love and never work a day in your life.” Well there is also a bit more to it. “Love what you do and enjoy every day.” So long story short, do what you enjoy doing.

Red Kawa

I love your work and am a but scared to say this but more SFW stuff might help. Art that can be posted on artstation and the like

Tamara S.

Like somebody has already said, I would assume that your content isn't quite the mass market appeal. Not that I would want that to change. There are plenty of artists doing more vanilla content and I like how wild and kinky yours is. I don't come across such a skilled painter doing dickgirl art every day. You are already doing female versions of your pieces, so that should already take care of how dickgirls aren't everyone's cup of tea and will always draw a smaller audience. I don't know if the people who dislike dickgirl content are maybe bothered by even knowing that there is a version with a cock or do not want to follow for the female content because they are also being exposed to the dickgirl pictures. That's a possibility perhaps, if I go by the sorts of comments I see on image boards sometimes. Somebody bitching about characters having a cock and how an artist should stop doing that. <.< The extra long and large endowments are another niché within the niché of dickgirls. That further concentrates the audience of course. I wouldn't want you to stop using your particular style though, just to appease the masses ( and I assume that you yourself enjoy painting your kinky dickgirl art, so I wouldn't want you to enjoy your work less either.). That's how we lose more unique experiences in all sorts of media as it's being homogenized to be palatable to the most people. I remember our chat on Twitter when you were down on yourself about not pumping out as much art as others, but your painterly style simply takes more time to do and the results are lovely. You shouldn't feel bad for the attention to detail you put into your work. When I was finally getting into painting I was more drawn to trying to do it like realistic oil paintings, rather than stylized and cartoony myself. I do hope that you're getting by well enough and I've pitched in my support to help out with that because I had been enjoying your art for years already. I'd gladly see you showered in money for the hard work you do of course, but I don't see mass appeal happening without sacrificing your trademark content. Not the most helpful comment perhaps, but that's my 2 cents about being niché content, which I'm familiar with myself. The audience for my Second Life photography is a lot smaller than that of female avatars, because a huge shemale avatar just ain't everyone's cup of tea. Heck, I could try shouting out your Twitter and Patreon in my album actually. It's 1.2k people who followed me for my silly huge shemale avatar, so maybe some of those might sign up to your Patreon (If they aren't already aware of your work because of being into this particular niché.)

Grayve

If i had to guess, its cause you are not vanilla enough. This is what attracted me to your work, so I'd hate to see it change, but as others have said... the extremes that I love are not what the average person craves.

Applewhite

Don’t change anything about your style. Maybe livestream your art process occasionally? A lot of the really big name porn artists have regular streams where they shoot the shit with fans while they work.

Miriam Garrity

Your quality is amazing and it’s not a matter of the content (not everyone is into super-thicc chicks with dicks, but there’s at least hundreds of thousands out there that are). I think it’s mostly a matter of finding your audience and going viral. Get your stuff out there on Twitter, Reddit, Deviant Art, ArtStation, target people who are already into this kind of porn and tease them with more. I know you do this already. But maybe be more aggressive about it. You already do some trendy pieces, which is good (Bowsette, Lady Dimescu, Mandalorian, etc.). Also tap onto things with large fan bases like anime, MMORPGS and other video games, etc. and post your applicable stuff in their subreddits, galleries, etc. I would argue the opposite of some above -

Miriam Garrity

I would argue that hitting more kinks and fetishes, not less, would attract more people who will be more devoted/obsessed with you. Obviously, you should draw what you like and what inspires you, but I;ve seen you do other themes like interracial cuckold, BDSM, Dom/sub, pee. Some animal fun would be awesome, but would have to be on something like a Subscribe Star...

Stevolteon

Perhaps a tailored "no dicks" tier which links to futa-free folders so those that don't want have an easier time?

YBG

I would say try to get more exposure, plenty of people love what you make or would if they know you made it. I myself found you on rule 34 then twitter and came here so if that’s all people can find you on 🤷‍♂️ also a Cara Dune piece wouldn’t hurt ;) 😘

Tamara S.

Yeah, perhaps this would be a solution to cater to those people that only want to see the female versions and can't make themselves simply skip the futa ones.

KinkyJimmy

Not sure lots of more contents would help if it means I'll have to lower the quality in order to up the quantity... I do want to create more OC stuff, but that demon on my shoulder keeps telling me it means less exposure.

KinkyJimmy

More exposure is absolutely an aspect that I would benefit from, but actually getting that is harder than it sounds. I'm on twitter (nearly 23k followers there), pixiv (14k followers), Hentai Foundry (close to 8k I think), Deviant Art, Newgrounds, Instagram plus some others that all have quite a few followers... I do try to find new places, but there's a limit to how much time I can spend on social media each day and not draw.

KinkyJimmy

I think many believe I only do futas aye, not sure why really since I nearly always do both versions...

KinkyJimmy

I'm on several other platforms as well, but yeah, that more followers on has on social media the business that translates to...

KinkyJimmy

I don't see myself doing tons of softcore stuff, and I guess it never will be softcore as long as there are futa variations with huge dongs and heavy nutsacks... ;) Finding my niché audience seems to be key here, just a matter of figuring out where they hang out... I'm pretty stubborn, so any changes to my artstyle is something that comes natural as I progress as an artist and not because I want to conform to the masses. However, like somebody else here mentioned, there are thousands of people that are into the same things we are, it's just a matter of finding them, and that's the really hard work... It seems that my suspicions have been confirmed by you lot, that I'm simply not vanilla enough to cater to the "boring" masses... ;) More wip's is certainly something I can do though, even if my process is a bloody nightmare and I never know if the end product will be good or not until i'm like 90 percent into a piece ;) Also OCs, that would really be fun...

KinkyJimmy

More eyes would mean a few more Patrons, the bigger the following the bigger the patronage... Chasing what trends at any given time is hard though, and I don't have the time to keep up with it all. I suppose I'll just have to stick to my guns and stay consistent, possibly venture into a simple comic/illustrated story soon, perhaps with an OC of mine... I do commissions when I have the time, and I do nitpick which I want to do so that I can use them for Patreon after alterations and such. Still, I live in Norway which is hella expensive...

KinkyJimmy

That's a double edged sword, getting followers because I draw vanilla stuff, but they won't sign up due to the very nsfw stuff ;)

KinkyJimmy

Thank you for the input and also the support! :D I fear I would just drown in the masses that are already drawing vanilla cause there are a lot of it... I guess I just simply need to come to terms with the fact that I'm a niché artist, and that my main goal should be to stay consistent and rather attempt to find that audience out there. One thing I could potentially do like others here have suggested is to make a tier simply for nonfuta contents since some people really can't stand to watch futas, as you also have observed...

KinkyJimmy

I do vanilla sometimes simply cause I love to draw a sexy pinup now and then, but I suppose the vanilla gets spiced up considerably when I had several pounds of shecock to the drawing..... :P I don't see myself turning to only draw cutefaced vanilla pinups no, but rather attempt to find more people like you out there...

KinkyJimmy

Been considering livestreams yeah, might look into it some more.... Mostly Twitch?

KinkyJimmy

More exposure certainly is easier said than done since it means many many hours spent on social media.... I try my best, and post on many platforms. hehe, but Cara went and got herself fired...... ;)

SFM admirer

Not to criticize the comments to hard but alot of poeple are suggesting the same thinhg here and alot of it you have done. I like your art the way it is obviously but if you wanted to try something else like maybe a lower detailed style where you can make more pictures and still put your lewd ideas out there. I saw you might consider a comic which i think people could get hooked on but the comic has to be topical, like shadbase had a comic with Helen and Violet from the Incredibles that was amazing. Hell maybe some Gifs could turn heads with a lower detail style but all your lewd appeal. Lewdua is like nothing but comic stuff and 1570 supporters at the moment, anyway hope you make the gains your looking for.

Lordofthecosmos

Maybe its also because of Corona? Many people are laid off from work and thus have less money

John Smith

I think once this corona pandemic is done you will see influx of people subscribing. Cause your art way more detailed then there’s and i like the realistic look on the ladies then the cartoonish style.

I understand it's frustrating. I can't follow many artists, and especially adult artists. Actually I just follow 6 (and will probably leave 1 or 2 soon). But probably you would be the last I would quit here, because I know your art for so many years. I don't have magic keys to gain more supporters. Your adult art style is very special, don't be upset but many people would not like it. You were probably the 1st one artist I saw drawing shemales and I was in love at first sight lol. Actually every artist do a "futa" version, so maybe people, and especially new and younger supporters don't see the difference. Sad.

Anonymous

The only suggestion I would make is maybe set up an account on slushe.com which is a newer digital adult art site. I know social media is a drag because it takes away time you could be creating art. Seems like most artist on Slushe just use it to post images as a pointer to their patreon, fansonly or gumroad accounts. Slushe seems to be lacking in 2d artwork, it's mostly 3d, but there's a lot of people who are fans of futa/dickgirls images and it could help you to drive traffic here. Also, you might want to look into packaging set of your images to put on gumroad.com or other sites like that.

apollo900

For myself personally I would say my issue is a combination of the large time between pictures, and that very rarely are people actually banging. I love the pinups don’t get me wrong, but seeing people fuck is a bigger turn on for me than just a pinup. Someone I know also said they don’t like that so many of your pictures have real people (it’s really weird to masturbate to a lady I know is dead who died in my lifetime, but otherwise it’s not a huge problem for me). This last one is a personal gripe but I might as well say it, it’s a little strange to me how every lady always kind of just has a casual smile. When I see people fuck I wanna see their face react to how the fucking feels. Eyes rolling to the back of their heads because it feels so good, or faces that are just stunned because of how big a dick is, ecstasy, etc. I will support you no matter what you do but these are my thoughts! Hope they help.

Lancer

To add to what @Purgy was saying I think a lot of the members like that you give them an opportunity to vote for, or even give their own opinions for the monthly line up. But In saying that, I think if you made anything with an OC it would be interesting to see what you can make or the stories/ situation they could get into. (Personally, whatever you chose to do with your work I think a lot of us would like it)

most of the replies here are already great. to bullet point things: 1. start blasting art out on all platforms. do you have a picarto account? stream your workflow, annoy people on twitter. make a discord. show up on other artist's discords and say hello/praise their work, allowing you to connect with other artists for trades - these inevitably show up on their twitter feeds and other social media channels, which will lead "holy shit kinkyjimmy's still around and his art is now x10 as good???" 2. more sex scenes. they take more work, sure, but they're generally worth it. maybe go super lazy mode for backgrounds on these. 3. take commissions here and there. stream them on picarto so the commissioner can watch. refuse to do private commissions because they're worthless for growing your brand - anything you make gets the deluxe version on the patreon and a preview of some kind in the public space. but, and this is SUPER IMPORTANT: 4. stay in your lane. to both retain your current base and your own urge to create, stay true to what you like to create and don't flex on it for any reason or the internet will have you drawing roblox x sonic scat porn. if you do a monthly commission or two make it ultra clear that you're still kinkyjimmy and you do what you do. futa in general is massive so you don't need to change a thing in this regard. 5. be patient, the social media BS takes time, but thankfully not a whole lot of work after the initial time investment of getting set up. just spend 20 minutes or so each day dicking around on your platforms of choice and then back to business as usual.

Anonymous

Roblox X Sonic gave me a hearty chuckle ahah I've been thinking for most of the day about what reply to KJ with, but you hit the nail on this for me. I agree with the general sentiment of this post and most of what other people have been saying. KJ, growing and social media presence takes time, but keep being you. I love the level of interaction you have with us and I love that you indulge us sometimes with the crazy fetishes.

KinkyJimmy

I've sort of painted myself into a corner here with detailed pieces...People expect to see the dirty details when they get the big files, so I feel I can't disappoint. Other big name artist appear to have very detailed styles, but when you zoom in the dirty bits are basically just suggested ;) Shadbase does/did a lot of stuff that would be banned on Patreon basically... Many artists do nothing but OCs and still thrive, so that it has to be topical isn't necessarily the case... but then again, who knows...

KinkyJimmy

True, that is probably one aspect, but then again why does other Patreons have thousands of backers... :shrugs:

KinkyJimmy

I do really love putting in the details in these pieces, how the flesh is squeezed and stretched for example when lewd things are happening ;) Sadly it does take a long time to do...

KinkyJimmy

Very happy you have been enjoying my works, thank you for the support :D And yes, my style is probably a bit unique and out there, but the more I think about it the more I'm realizing that I can't change what I do, I have to do me and not try to be the next Sakimichan or whatever... I have considered setting up a nonfuta tier though, so people who just can't stand that doesn't have to worry about getting a huge sweaty nutsack in their face with their morningcoffee browsing my Patreon ;)

KinkyJimmy

Thanks for reminding me about Slushe, had forgotten about that.... I do sell on Gumroad actually, have for years now.

KinkyJimmy

Banging pics takes a long time to draw in my style, which is one of the reasons I don't do them as often. More oooh and aaah faces would certainly make for a better sexpiece, but when dealing with real people/movie characters it might be really hard to find pics of them with those expressions in the perfect angle and light to fit with the drawing... Sometimes it means an entire day of only looking for facereference photos... I have been for the most part been doing three pieces a month however... Perhaps more drawings of fucking with less variations might be something to consider. Thanks for the support and input :D

KinkyJimmy

I'm thinking that having a monthly poll do at least decide one piece should be a regular thing yeah... Also just shooting the breeze with you lot, reading your suggestions and picking something from that I feel would look good in my style. Really want to do some OC stuff, perhaps start out with a simpler style just to test the waters...

KinkyJimmy

Thank you for many good points :) I do already spend some time on social media, and also geniunely praise other artists, both bigger and smaller than me follower wise... but my god some of these big names have some shitty personalities... :P And also on Discord, you soon realize that most people are into toony/anime stuff and I've had artists just blatantly tell me that my "realistic" style sucks and the only way to go i s more toony since anything else is stiff and awkward... ;) More sexscenes is noted, several of you have suggested it so I'll go with that even though it means it's harder to promote those pics (Deviant Art, Instagram etc) Less detailed backgrounds would certainly be something I had to do also. I do pick which commissions I want to do, I turn down tons cause they don't fit with what I do.

Penerotic

I would also like to know. There are some good suggestions here.

Stevolteon

Been thinking more about this - how about a new low cost Patreon tier which works kind of like Audible; every month you get one "credit" which can be redeemed against any picture (and all alts) new or old. That way even if someone isn't interested in new images for a month they can still get something, or even save the credit for the future. As an added bonus it would give you an idea of which pictures were popular which could help inform future content. Only drawback is it'd put something of a logistical burden on you, keeping track of who has credits and what they want to use them for. Might be able to automate it.

Tazrael

Nothing to add at this point but agreeing with a lot of the advice here and I'm glad the community has your back like this. Also I love your "realistic" style, and it's part of what makes your art stand out~ My own small selfish vote goes out for more occasional "weird" kinks like nippledicks and such, but that also probably won't help with gaining a wider audience, though on the other hand it might lure folks in if it's a sometimes thing. Of course, if it's a kink you've personally moved on from then no worries. But I do hope you get all the recognition you've earned and deserve~
