She volunteered for Project Glimmer in order to use the monetary compensation to pay for her sister's hospital fees. Her role was to produce eggs like the other bug girls so that Emily can use her as a test subject to try to develop a way to keep them from producing eggs automatically. So far, tests have been positive, and though Erika started with a very high production rate, she makes eggs only sparsely, something she is very thankful for.
