My fellow bass players!

One of the most effective ways to get good at writing or improvising bass lines is to practise walking bass lines. When you're learning a complex new skill, most of us can't just immediately start practising the full skill - we have to break it down into components.

Walking bass lines allow you to essentially forget about the rhythm component for a while, since you're just playing a quarter note on every single beat. That allows you to put all your focus into the notes.

So while walking bass lines are mostly used in jazz, they are incredibly helpful as a practice tool regardless of whether you're interested in playing jazz or not. Right now I'm not playing jazz a huge amount but my experience with walking bass lines comes in handy every day.

This lesson will show you exactly what passing notes and chromatic approaches are, and teach you how to use them to spice up your bass lines!

As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments and I'll make sure to respond ASAP!

P.S. - the other attachments can be found under the companion videos 87.1, 87.2 and 87.3 - there's so many it's a little overwhelming to put them all here haha
