Hey everyone!

Here's a challenging but funky slap riff for intermediate / advanced slappers!

It's from my arrangement of Smooth Criminal - the full version is on YouTube!

If you consider yourself intermediate, try playing it slower (around 80 bpm), but if you're advanced you might be able to get it all the way up to full speed (128 bpm) 😎

Either way, have fun with it!

Thanks for coming here and practising, it's an honour to practise with you!

See you in the next video,

Charles

This is fantastic, that's a tasty lick before you go back into the main riff. looking forward to the next vid.

I'm learning so much, but I realised there's not an awful lot on things like working your slap/pop length. Like with Higher Ground I used to struggle with the length of the notes and how to control it. Especially with the pop, I never like the sound of my pops. They never sound like they do in your videos or whoever else's really. Is that the bass tone knobs I need to work on? It's been bugging mr for ages.

Glad to hear you're learning a lot! I think a lesson on note length could be helpful in the future so thanks for bringing that up. Can you identify what it is about the pop sounds you don't like? There are a few things that could be causing the problem. You might need to adjust the tone knobs, change the strings on your bass or lower the string height (action). But if you can describe the problem in more detail I might be able to give more specific advice!
