If it was up to Alicent and Rhaenyra, maybe it wouldn't have been too late. But with Aegon losing his son, he'd never just drop it or get over it. The clarification wouldn't make Aegon willingly give back the crown. For the men on the Green side, it's definitely too late to stop anything. Especially since the plan to crown Aegon was going on long before Viserys died.
