technically the original movies are not canon but the abridged versions are canon to the abridged series. except for the Dragon Ball Super movies they are canon

I don't think any of the movies that Abridged covers is better to watch the OG first. Mostly because the OG movies are sort of made to showcase the powers everyone has in the current place in the story when it was released. It wasn't until Probably the last DBZ movie that they become part of the story, but DBZA doesn't cover that movie.
