It's finally here...! Verily, truly, finally here! And I owe it all to the Unitypocalypse!

What does that mean? Well, a little backstory. First of all, you may know that ONHA, a project for a fan-game based on the My Hero Academia anime series, has been in limbo for a LONG time!

Ever since I started making fangames back in 2015, I learned and experienced many processes and issues that game devs run into routinely: with ONHA, I ran into all the issues that mar pre-production. Choosing a type of game, choosing an engine, finding good collaborators... At first I wanted it to be something like JPDE, but it would have been too epic in scope to work on alongside the JPDE series.

Then, after deciding for a smaller, more focused game, there was the issue that I still wanted it to be a mix between a Visual Novel and JRPG but, having learned how hard it is to do that in Ren'py, let's just say that the engine gave me second thoughts... I started experimenting with RPGMakerMZ and that was better, but that made me run into further issues.

The main issues was components: MHA is set in an alternate present, with some scifi stuff in it and superpowers, but still real modern world. Sadly, there are very few quality RPGMaker tilesets for modern times in the wild. I tried commissioning some but...

Then, something wonderful happened! Unity -the engine- has gone further down the crapper, recently, and its CEO has spouted some... Egregious declarations, which do not bode well for Unity's future as a game developing engine.

This has caused a lot of people to start looking into alternatives. In the midst of all this, KenneyNL (a semi-legendary indie gaming content creator) started a twitter thread where he shared some other engines. In the replies, a few other developers shared their own...

And one particular engine caught my eye...

What is the Narrat Engine? Simply put, the Narrat Engine was the answer to my prayers. Not only is Liana great -she gave me so much help and feedback as I experimented and suggested new features- but Narrat is perfect. It's simply the engine I needed for the concept of ONHA I had in mind.

How perfect? The Vertical Slice you're about to play took only seven days to make from scratch.

So, I invite you to play the Vertical Slice and give me your feedback. Also, I invite you to follow Liana and the development of the Narrat Engine. The tool also has a personal website and a Discord Community.

ONHAcademia - MINA [VERTICAL SLICE]

Enjoy!

P.S.: This will be lood, just so you know. :P

Its promising, but i would have say there is a lot of unused space on the screen idk if there are plans to have sprites fill the open space like in JPDE but i would say that was my biggest issue, but if this is the plan moving forward i can learn to adapt
