Apr 2019 - Featured Stream (Patreon)

Hi everyone,

For this month's featured stream, I'll be sharing with you the latest page I worked, that is page 6. The comic page process starts at the 01:40:00 mark for those of you who want to jump right to it, otherwise it's a good 1.5 hours worth of hyper muscle madness and happy hardcore music.

Page 6 was a technically challenging page to work on. If you watch the video, I was initially going to work on a 11-panel page, which turned out to be insane and impractical considering how tiny the 9-panel montage frames were.

In a nutshell, the story plays out with Tanz and Groover asking where Pridestar's been the past several months and what he's been up to. Originally, Pridestar gets a flashback of all the random folks he'd been in bed with, and the punchline ends with him responding to Tanz and Groover, "sightseeing". The idea was to have all the "strangers" cameo appearances of friends I know, but as I started drafting the panels, I realized as a new reader, it was incredibly confusing to see 9 completely different and random characters, not to mention how constricted the space was. Mechanically and visually the whole thing felt clunky and unnecessarily over complicated.

I then cleared out the 9 panels and made 3 columns so that it gave me more breathing space to move things around. From here on, everything was impromptu and decided on the fly. I did not know where I was going, only that I knew I had some earlier drawing outtakes I figured I could reuse to "fill in the blanks". From here on, I decided to focus Pridestar's shenanigans on Snares, the lifeguard lion he's obsessed about, which made a better link and character connection for both new and returning readers (whom we'll see more of later). You'll notice that I've started sketching haphazardly trying to work out a variety of poses and angles to show the passing of time for the montage.
