Yesterday on stream(https://www.youtube.com/live/ObnlEaKRONo?feature=share), I tested out SuperNova Kid and the deck performed GREAT. With 9Beard, Radical Beam, and 4Marco all being reduced to one, Red's defense has become significantly leader, which makes Kid a much stronger leader. The chances of Red dying to a 12K double unblockable swing is more real than ever. 9Beard in particular is a huge nerf for Whitebeard, because Whitebeard would keep up with 8 Cost Kid in the past by chaining 9Beards, but that is no longer a possibility! If they don't get their one-of 9Beard they're kind of just doomed, and even if they get that one 9Beard, they may still be doomed!

(Here's my Current Tier List for reference)

I currently believe the popular versions of Kid stand at the Top of A. Kid's worst matchups are Black Lucci and Red Ace, which both seem to be uncommon at top tables, and it's Whitebeard and Zoro matchups have been buffed. With the rise of popularity in Doflamingo as a counter to Whitebeard, and less of the good players playing Law, I honestly think the right version of Supernova Kid may even be able to crack into S Tier.

Supernova Kid Decklist

This is my current Supernova Kid Decklist, and as you can see, there are ZERO op03 cards. My favorite card, Krieg, is also not in this decklist, because I believe it is unnecessary. I'm a huge fan of Krieg, because I believe it is broken against Zoro, but four copies of 8 Cost Kid is the greatest threat against Zoro!

Cat Viper is convenient for cleaning up pesky cards like Gordon/Blamenco. It is also great for cleaning up 1-drops in the early game against Whitebeard, so we can Bonney or Momo in peace the following turn. It can also tap low cost blockers such as Fossa/Chopper in the late-game.

This card is strong for the same reason as Cat Viper. Against Zoro and Law specifically, it's convenient to rest characters and attack them early, so producing a 6K body while doing that is very strong. It's also one of our best turn 2 going second plays against Whitebeard, because we can clean up a Nami/Izou while producing a 6K body, then the following turn we can go 8K, 9K.

Raizo and Momonosuke are very strong cards to behind 8 Cost Kid. Momonosuke searchers for our Wano engine, and is a very powerful early play against Whitebeard, as it functions as a blocker. Raizo can also "search" for anything, as it's a free draw one every turn! We have a total of 10(including Bonney) "draw one cards," which is great for the 8 Cost Kid strategy.

It's up to debate which card is stonger between this card and Shachi, but I personally think this card is stronger because it's searchable. It's important to have a 4K power blocker, because it can not conveniently be destroyed by 9Beard, 5Marco, or Vista!

6K Blockers are too strong! Law allows us to either reuse or collect Cat Vipers/Izou against decks like Zoro/Law, and the 6K statline is seriously a threat. This card may be reduced to 3, but I think 4 is the strongest against Zoro and Law.

This card has been one of the goats ever since set one. This card is absolutely disgusting against Whitebeard, and significantly slows down their gameplan as they are hesitant to attack. This card is also one of the saving graces against Law, as if it's seen early enough, we can really commit to an "abuse the board" strategy. This card is also very strong against the 8Kid mirror, I think there's no way this card should not get included in Supernova Kid decks.

This card is really goodagainst Whitebeard and Law. Against Whitebeard, it's one of our best plays going first, as it can pop an Atmos on curve. Against Law, it's also good to be able to pop 3 Cost Zoro. A lot of people aren't a huge fan of this card, but it's searchable, has 1K counter, and has various use cases, so I think it should remain at 1-2 copies.

Rest a 4 Cost or less, while giving +4k Counter. It's too strong.

THIS IS THE CENTER OF THE DECK!!! Before "chaining 9Beards" ever existed, 8 Cost Kid was the first "8K Power" Leader. This card is traditionally strong against 9Beard Whitebeard, because it's almost impossible for them to kill this card when there are 3 blockers present. Boatbeard was an issue because of Squard giving -4K for 3 costs, while Boat giving +2k to everything, but that is no longer possible.

With 9Beard being reduced to 1, it's more difficult than ever for Whitebeard to deal with this card. Gordon commonly being at 0-1 copies, also makes this card very strong against Zoro, as 8 Cost Kid has always been the natural enemy of Zoro.

General Gameplan

Attack Selection: Choose to Go Second

  • Mulligan: Bonney, 8 Cost Kid, Yamato(Against Red), Hawkins
  • The typical gameplan of this deck is to take most of the opponent's, and then play 8 Cost Kid standing on turn 4. I generally will guard about 1 attack, by the fourth turn, that way my opponent can't go all-in and try to kill me or reduce too many resources, when I play 8 Cost Kid standing.
  • If the opponent tries to keep you at 3 life, then aggro with Leader while keeping 8 Cost Kid standing. You can normally get away with hard playing blockers, and not resting Kid until they attack you, because blockers will defend you in the event, the opponent the opponent tries to kill you or reduce too many resources from 3 life.  You can also play another 8Kid standing if they try to keep you at 3 life.
  • Rest Kid once the opponent has put you at 1-2 life.
  • Gibson is broken for resting blockers, so make sure to abuse that

Black and Ace are currently the hardest matchups, I'm looking for countermeasures, but it's currently looking like a "pray to god" angle.

That's it for the article, as always, please leave a like if this was helpful. Also let me know if any of y'all have tested Supernova Kid! This is the next deck I really wanna cope, especially since Zoro players be slacking on their Gordon count...

any advice for the yellow matchup? I've been using this deck for a few weeks now but that matchup can still be tough. I have been using 5c Yamato x2 to help but the card feels klnda bad outside of yellow matchup.

crossai

I haven't played the matchup much yet, so I'll try to test it out on stream to get better insight. But I imagine that you want to get them to waste a Kata on smth like a Hawkins or Drake before you slam down 8 Cost Kid. Or if you have multiple 8 Cost Kid, you play it back-to-back, becaseyou have more search to get to two 8 cost kids, than they do two Katakuri. Also, Kata sends Kid to our life, so if they dont' have 10 cost Mom, you can just grab Kid out of life then replay it. If this don't work then it's a 5C Yamato nagle not gonna lie
