Here's the finished version (complete with notes) that I send off to Nytrinhia!

You could probably click back and forth between this image and the last one to try and spot all the fixes that I made, if you're bored.

Nitrinhia's a crazy talented artist, and it's always a really bad idea to micromanage a creative person in their craft. So when I make notes, I try to be general and trust her to just do her own thing. In the email I send to Nytrinhia to let her know the page is ready, I'll include some notes to elaborate what I'm hoping for.

This page (and the next one - I send two at a time) had a LOT of notes because this is a fairly important character, and I'm using the environment to try and establish his personality and his relation to Thistle. However, I only write those out so Nytrinhia has context for the scene she's coloring.

If I've used a reference photo for a scene or environment, I'll drop that reference photo into a shared Google Drive folder called "References" so that she'll have context/help with that if she needs it. I'll also mention more important details like "Hym wears red robes with gold trim," etc. etc.

In general.... well, I just try to be general. I'll say "I want this to feel warm and cozy," or "this is a night scene," and then trust her to create that mood with her colors.

That's a colorist's job - they don't just put down flats and make pretty effects - they make the emotion come out. And Nytrinhia's freaking awesome at it.

All the hard work for me is pretty much done at this point, and I start working on the next page while Nytrinhia gets to work. Back to Step 2 for Page 3 for me!

Wonder where I could hire a colorist in the future... You two really are a great team. I felt privileged to meet her in person at the wedding. Good times.
