I wanted the artwork to look like it was a carved wood plate print, since that's realistically how these kinds of advertisements would be produced en-masse with the technology available.

Fun Fact: the printing press was "discovered" relatively recently within the DotL universe, and books printed en-masse have finally, finally become commonplace. 

All of this to say, to make this piece, I started with the sketch seen on the last page of Chapter 6 (I'll go back and replace that graphic with this version), and "carved" it out of a large block of black using the Eraser tool in Photoshop. It's not at all like the real thing, but you make do with what you have!

You can see every version of the final illustration I've done, here: the bottom middle was the one I chose to go with (it's a slightly morphed version of the one to its left - I tweaked the lower jaw to make it look centered).
