I find that painting contests where the participation prize is an older model from the catalogue are a lot of fun. Encourages more than the A+++ level painters to participate.

As a Merchant who pays a monthly tier fee to their Artists through Patreon, I Absolutely Love when The Artist has an avenue for customers to Buy prints. For example, NomNom and OxO have Discord lists Posted of Legit Paying Merch tier subscribers. This list is Out front, Available on their websites and Social medias. This is like FREE advertising for your Merch Tier subs. We definitely Look for this aspect when choosing a New Patreon to sub to.
