Oh look what just popped up in my notifications.. On my home now from work, picking up some chinese food and gonna watch that puzzled look on Spartans face, wondering why us Boston people act and talk the way we do.. lol.. Thanks for the video guys!!

FullMetal B

So pumped to watch this tonight! There's no chance spartan is not mad about the end 🤣

Lyn Hurst

They did see Good Will Hunting with the serious Boston accents.

SuddenImpulse

YESSS!!! Long have I waited.

Zach Zbinden

Phenomenal movie ! Can't wait to sit down and shit this one wit y'all hope you guys enjoyed

Lyn Hurst

I feel cheated by the unresolved ending. No one was good. I think the psychiatrist tipped off Dignam. She worked for them. I was hoping Bill would get to go on with his life. It was like who is the informant, then oh someone else is corrupt, the Captain was messed up too and then everyone but the psychiatrist was on the wrong side and everyone was dead. Could it be the biggest jerk in the beginning, Dignam, was the only clean one.

Saint

The envelope didn't have a letter in it. That was the tape, he knew she would listen to it. Costigan says later he had boxes of them. The second rat was not in the FBI, that was Matt Damon's partner from earlier. They questioned a woman together near the start of the movie when Damon spots Costello's tail. Later he jokes that he can help him get a promotion if he owns a suit, Damon was out pacing him in climbing the ranks. The only presence of the FBI was that Costello was an informant selling everyone else out. The resolution to the film is technically justice prevailing lol. Dignam ties a bow on the plot killing Damon, but the corruption was deep and it cost some great people. Love this movie, the ending is an explosive culmination of everyone's personal interests and convictions.

The letter was Billy’s insurance in case he died, with all the info including Mark Wahlburg’s contact information. Madeline contacted him with the evidence. As satisfying as it was to see Matt Damon’s character die, I ultimately hated that Wahlburg shot him.

ChimneyJim

Yes! Now it’s time for Goodfellas!!!

Good on you Spartan. Martin Scorsese was a significant influence on Quentin Tarantino. It is cool when we see those influences.

Great movie, but I agree with Spartan that I didn't like the end. Like you said, it was a bit weird that when Bill found out that Collin was the rat, he was smart enough to escape the police station, and smart enough to take precautions by giving the Doctor the envelop with the envidence, but then why be so stupid about the way he set up the arrest? Since Dignam killed Collin at the end, he must've known that Collin was the rat. He probably knew that because the doctor opened the envelop and it had evidence + instructions to contact Dignam. That seems like the thing Bill would do. It was evident that he ONLY TRUSTS Dignam, so why make the arrest himself? And then the sudden reveal of the extra rat at the end was very weak imo. More concretely, how did he even know about the meeting? Maybe Brown brought him along? I don't know. Aren't they in different services? Brown a cop, the rat fbi. Also, when Brown showed up at the end, Bill said "I called you, remember?". Why would he call him and not Dignam? Why do anything without Dignam is my question, really? And if he called Brown, why was Brown so clueless? What did he tell him? "Come here and watch me make an arrest but I won't tell you who?" I am definitely not against these kind of endings. In fact, I usually quite enjoy them. And tbf, by shooting the other (fbi) rat, Collin could easily play it that he was the main rat all along, and clearing himself by doing so. And commending Bill for the medal also made sense, because quite a few people knew about that there was an undercover agent. But still, it was a little too messy for me.

Unresolved? Are bullets not resolution? Most people don't get neat little bows on their lives, and the characters in this movie were all headed towards annihilation based on a series of bad decisions. I think it would feel weird if something uplifting actually happened at the end.

Katie Thomas

The first time I saw this my jaw was on the fucking floor when Billy got shot

Lyn Hurst

I did not word everything articulately in my comment. I get that resolutions do not always equal a happy ending. I didn't mean to write it that way. Maybe it just all ended abruptly. And yes where mobs, and police corruption, informants are concerned it isn't always pretty. I was hoping someone had redemption, but maybe just wishful thinking.

M

not gonna lie, I had the exact same reaction to the ending

JonSnow21

Nah you guys ,this isn’t a tarantino film lol , this is a Scorsese film . The greatest director of all time to alot of people who was around long before tarantino. Jack Nicholson ( who I was surprised y’all didn’t recognise) and Leonardo dicaprio both killed their roles as they do in every single film they’re in and Matt damon was also great. Fun fact, Leonardo actually was nominated for a best actor Oscar this same year for a different film called Blood Diamond which is also incredible and imo even better but alot of people thought he could’ve gotten nominated over this film as well . Great cast , one of the best ever in a film.

JonSnow21

Ngl by your comment, you clearly didn’t understand the film or maybe you’ve never seen a Scorsese film lol.

Isaac_

I’m back on. Love this film you two. Excellent choices as always, been a YouTube viewer for a bit but good to be here for those BCS releases >:) been waiting a long time for that

Lyn Hurst

I love the bullets as resolution remark. Uh yes a type of resolution but definitely a finite one.

Lyn Hurst

I have seen a handful of Scorsese films but avoided the more sleazy and/or violent ones. Not my style. I think Jack Nicholson is a fantastic actor, but I did not like him in this. He did have a few good lines, but it seemed they were trying hard to make him seem like a bad ass. He can be a bad ass just with his presence.

ButtercupsTrueLove

As the movie ended, Pudgey and Spartan had completely opposite reactions. I gotta watch them again! lol

Drip Drop

CERTIFIED BANGER

JonSnow21

Well I disagree , I think Jack was great as he always is and same with Leo and Matt.

Ed R

Martin Scorsese has never really made a bad movie. they are all worth watching. Goodfellas, Casino, Taxi Driver, The Color of Money, The Wolf of Wallstreet, Bringing out the Dead, etc ...

big harsher

more scorsese! need a goodfellas reaction

Emmy

Just to make it clear: The man who shoots Billy is a cop and friend of Sullivan, his name is Barrigan. However, Sullivan does not know Barrigan is also an operative for Costello inside the Boston Police. So when Billy is shot by him, Sullivan still thinks that it is another Boston cop trying to protect him from Billy. Then, Officer Brown (a clean cop) comes down and sees Billy dead on the ground with Sullivan and Barrigan standing there. So, Barrigan shoots Brown so they can maintain their covers as Boston cops. At this point, Barrigan explains to Sullivan he is also a Costello operative inside the police. Then, Sullivan kills Barrigan because he wants to kill anyone that has any information about him being a Costello operative. Technically, everyone who knows is dead including Costello and all of his men, and now Billy and Brown. So, if he kills Barrigan there will be no one left that knows about his secret life and he can continue working for the Boston Police as some sort of hero. It was an epic scene. Scorcese manages to compeltely shock the audience three times in a row in a short time. It was like a barrage of three bullets shooting you in 20 seconds for the audience. It is so shocking that most people I watch this movie with, including myself just burst out into shocked laughter. So fun! Edit: Also, after all of that, you sort of forget about Dingam. So when he shows up at the end, the audience is shocked AGAIN, and then AGAIN when he kills Sullivan. Brilliant!

SuddenImpulse

Sullivan killed Barrigan so he could pin him as being the mole.

Shay

I HATED that Queenan and Billy were killed. And both of their deaths were so brutal and shocking (Queenan’s take the cake though). Overall it’s one of my favorite Scorsese movies and it’s definitely my favorite role for Wahlberg. He’s actually from Boston and I love that he was allowed to go full throttle with his accent, along with having some of the best lines in the movie. Btw, the gold dome that Sullivan admired wasn’t a church, it was the State House (Capitol) building in Boston. It was showing us he had ambition for power all along, even choosing to live near it. The only gripe I have is I still think Billy would’ve waited for Dignam to return from his leave of absence or he would’ve found his home address the way he did with Queenan. That little plot point still bugs me. Great reaction and I’m so glad you guys liked it! Goodfellas needs to be the next Scorsese film, if you ask me. Similar energy/vibe. You’ll love it.

SuddenImpulse

Character in movie says the gold domed building is the sate house. 7 seconds after character says this Spartan says its the church lol Never change Spartan :P

SuddenImpulse

One clarification: Dignam was put on a leave of absence, but he rejected this and decided to leave permanently and resigned. As such Dignam wasn't returning and no longer had law enforcement authority. Some of these scenes are directly based on or copied from the movie its partially remaking called Infernal Affairs, which also had the elevator scene.

Pablo

Nah bullets are not resolution. Not narratively or dramatically. That doesnt mean the characters dont get resolution, in fact everyone gets to fulfill their character arcs just seconds before they die. That is why they die, they no longer serve any narrative purposes. Love this movie.

Pablo

Loved the reaction and this movie. Scorsese might just be the greatest working director. Literally a walking legend. He is been doing this for 50 years more consistently than anyone else, more consistently than Spielberg, Cameron, Tarantino, Coppola or any other directors with at least 3 decades of career. I mean the guys has zero misses, every movie is a banger. Even now that he is in his 80s and has made like 5 films in the last 15 years even realesing one last year and they are all still near perfect movies

Casey Kendrick

The first time I watched it, I had the exact same reaction. If you watch it again it makes more sense. This is a movie where the more you see it the more you pick up on, and the more everything starts to make sense. I've always taken the view that the therapist is pregnant with William's son; that's what she was going to tell him when he said to wait two weeks. I also believe that she gets the envelope to Dignam, and that's how he knows Sullivan is the rat. Oh and for those of us who are ANCIENT....you could totally text by memory and the feel of the keys on flip phones. It was a magical time.

Kwisatz Haderach

The ending is perfect. Not everything needs a happy end, sometimes life gets cut short

Owen Hargrave

Arguably the greatest director ever. Martin Scorsese.

Duncan

You need to put Goodfellas on a poll, probably scorsese"s best movie

Julien

I thought this was an outright remake of infernal affairs, which I haven't seen.
