You guys should totally watch the movie that came out in the 90s that's related to this. Its simply called The Haunting

Minerva Ravenclaw

Jenna

Nathan Cutter

Fucking beautiful series this is

Christopher

Compadre is in the Spanish language but it is a term that is more often used in Latin American cultures, so yes, Spartan you are on the money.

Something I noticed when watching together with this reaction... I think Nell flushed her pills the same night she dropped him off at rehab is because Luke was going into rehab, so she didn't want that to be in his system because of the "twin thing". And since he was doing good, she refused to take the medicine again. Maybe a stretch?

A.D

probably because its almost October again, but so happy people are reacting to this show again, love hearing all your theories hahaha, even just between this and blind wave who just started their 3rd show reaction from the hill house showrunner, the hype is real these days - second half of the season is just outstanding! we all know why.... :) ** also fun fact, the guy who plays Nell's therapist played Luke in the 1963 movie that this show was somewhat based off of (its based off a book which was then a movie)

Saibal Sarkar

Been waiting for this episode omg loved watching you react to this

Jenna

I have so much fun with you guys in these reactions. I am a super anti-spoiler person so I won't really say anything, but I would just suggest to consider a lot of the themes/ideas/charcters of this show from a family/mental health perspective. It is not the only message the show portrays, but it is definitely a big one. Thanks guys!

Jenna

I didn't know this fun fact about the actor. Cool!!

Lyn Hurst

Wow. Nell seeing herself after she committed suicide is mindblowing. I am thinking she can't move and is suspended when the bent necked lady is in the room because she is in the future. When Nell is awake and fully present, the bent necked lady can't exist at the same time. Not knowing much about haunting, part of me wonders if they are haunted not the house because the haunting follows them. I do not believe the bent necked lady killed Arthur. Surely Theo would have felt it. Just a theory. The red room intrigues me since we have yet to see it.

Ailene Evangelista

That ending plot twist is one of my favorite plot twists ever. Just left me totally speechless! What a crazy, tragic outcome for Nellie :(

Julien

Lol that movie was fucking terrible. I saw it in theaters. It was a remake of the original Haunting movie from the 60s (something of a classic), which itself was an adaptation of the Haunting of Hill House novel. Of all content derived from the original book that one could consume, the 1999 shite movie should be the very last.

Julien

Please try not to get so wrapped up in the logic and mechanics and "equations" of things as to somewhat overlook the emotional heart of the ending: Nell was haunted by her own death her entire life, since she was a little girl. It's an extraordinary tragic reveal and one of the the most heartbreaking twists in media. This is not a "rules-based" universe. The mechanics of the bent-neck lady reveal don't matter. The extreme tragedy of it is what does.

JonSnow21

Y’all see why people wanted you to watch this series, it’s not your average horror lol. It’s an all time great show and honestly episode 6 might be even better imo. Nell’s story is soo tragic like Luke’s , she’s been haunting herself her entire life , amazing plot twist. Both of the twins are obviously the fan favourites and my personal favourite characters as well but Steve did have a point when he said that she was shouldn’t embarrass him infront of everyone bc he can clearly see that she’s off her meds and clearly not in her right mind. I don’t really understand how her point of writing about stuff you don’t believe in , does that mean Stephen King is a terrible person? And I get about him making money off of their misery ,but it’s fine that Theo accepts the money and also doesn’t believe them and Shirley? I explained it before but most people in his situation would assume Mental Illness, I know I would. Point is this show has a bunch of complex characters and almost everyone with the exception of Nellie has darkness in them and good which is why it’s the greatest one season show of all time.

Julien

It's one of the worst things I've ever seen in media. It's so cruel and tragic.

AG

such a great episode and reaction and with you guys and your constantly ticking brains i was so happy you didn’t think about the plot twist before it happened. i think the next episode might be my favorite or at least one of my favorites of the series so can’t wait for that. and semi unrelated, i just went to a convention today and saw henry thomas (he plays the younger version of the dad). i wanted to say hi but i was too nervous lol he’s in i think all of the “flanaverse” shows though i think and i hope you guys react to more in the future because they are all excellent!

Paul

Good catch, never thought of it like that.

Paul

The last time Nell sees the Bent-Neck lady, in the little alley with the vending machine, it's the only time she sees the lady appear, and how does she appear? From above, dropping down. Nice little morbid detail there. Was one hell of a twist and I loved it, it has great shock value, however I think the next 5 episodes are actually even better than anything you've seen so far, it all comes together perfectly.

Ryan

This show is just so good. It will be hard to ever top it in the genre for me. Its just so unique and the story is beyond great. It hits all the feels too.

Hira Memon

She threw away her meds because she thought meds were making bent neck lady come back (in worse way) while she was awake. But the theory is correct. Since she flushed the meds, it helped Luke get clean.

Retrograde69

The idea that Nell was haunted her entire life by her death was so tragic. The Bent Neck Lady is a representation of Nell's creeping depression. That's why when Life is good with Arthur, she "goes away". She see's her when she see's her brother relapse after she buys him drugs. She sees it at one of the worst moments in her life when Arthur has an aneurysm. She sees it at the motel after none of her siblings picked up her calls. When her mother left her in the middle of the night after she needed her. This show loves to represent grief, mental health, and trauma as one of the real ghosts and Nell's is so well done to show how suicide can feel like a looming inevitability for someone with this horrible disease.

Nicole

What I think is interesting is that the ghosts of Nell that Steve and Luke saw were of her in the outfits that they saw her wearing in person during their last interactions.

Traven Sweetsir

The twins were extremely misunderstood when it came to the rest of their family. They just needed someone to listen, Nell’s story is tragic

Owen Hargrave

This episode and the next one especially the next one are masterpieces. some of the best episodes of TV I’ve ever seen. All the episodes in the show are great but imo them two are the standouts with of course the others being phenomenal too.

Ashleep

Is it "confirmed" that that's the motivation? I thought she flushed them more out of not wanting to be(come) an addict and/or for mental solidarity with Luke, but would be interested to know if that was more explicitly explained somewhere (that her medicating somehow negatively impacted him)? (Edit: I have a twin brother so I'm always sort of extra scrutinizing media approaches to twins.)

Owen Hargrave

I get we love Nell but we were not meant to agree with her going off on everyone. That’s the whole reason she’s dead, she wasn’t wrong but she pushed everyone away hence why no one answered. Her going off on Luke at his event, pushing Theo away but insulting her etc was her spiralling, not her facing her past or getting over it. I love her but if she didn’t push them away then, maybe things would have gone differently afterwards.

Toan Toan

Sigh the twins really got the worst from this house.

Demo

The bent neck lady is the best and closest representation of depression that I’ve ever seen

Lizabee

I feel like this is just meant to f you up because I’ve never gotten over this twist. It’s oddly true for real life… we get so scared of things and we end up becoming them because we’re so focused on them. It sucks so much for Nellie… she’s too good for this

Lizabee

I just love this show so much. There’s just SO much to read into and it’s so powerful

CoffeeNBleach

I can’t wait to see if you explore the connection between the five stages of grief and the five Crain children as they come in order: Steve: denial Shirley: anger Theo: bargaining Luke: depression Nell: acceptance

Sherry Porritt

The bent-neck lady is a metaphor for your own self and past haunting you. That's the real horror of this show. Its not the supernatural that is haunting the family, its their shared and individual traumas

Dónde está la biblioteca

I didn't see any comments about the 3am reference in S&P's discussions. I assumed it was the time Nellie hung herself -- but across the time zones the kids/dad live in. I think we saw midnight, 2 am and 3 am, if I recall.
