Let me provide a little context of the battle itself. Operation Market Garden like they said was a high-risk high-reward operation. Holland (Netherlands) was capturd by the Germans in May of 1940 and occupied since. OMG started on the 17th of September, 1944. They were dropped deep into enemy territory, they were supposed to capture bridges and hold them for a few days until the armored reinforcement arrived so they could use those bridges to cross the Rhine into Germany significantly reducing the time needed to really bring the fight to them. For the people of Holland, they were the saviors, finally liberating the country. Holland never stood a chance to fight against the Germans. France is orders of magnitude larger and fall pretty quickly despite the fact that the border was extremely well fortified. The Allies dropped in over 34000 airborne infantry from the Brits and the US. Obviously, the intel was bad and there were a lot of Germans stationed in the area whilst at some places the Allies managed to capture their objectives, other areas they failed due to heavy resistance and they either couldn't capture the bridges or the Germans blew it up as they retreated. The British 1st got it worse, I believe they've lost 8000 troops out of the total 12000 deployed. There is a great movie called "The Bridge Too Far" that was made based on Operation Market Garden and it's really worth a watch even if you just do it without recording it. An absolute classic. @Spartan Regarding the war hero thing... most of these boys went there to fight to do their part in the great war for their country. There were a lot of suicides among those who were not fit to fight due to medical reasons. They felt they'd let their people down. Nobody is set out to be a hero, sometimes it just happens. In fact, in the military the hero mentality is drilled out of people, heros get people killed. Don't try to be a hero. Use the training and the strength of your unit to be the most effective fighting force you can. 2 good steady soldiers are much stronger than a hero, 4 good soldiers are a fire team, 2 fire teams is a squad, etc... don't be a hero, be smart and use good tactics so heroes are not needed. There are actions that are heroic but nobody sets out to be one. Good stuff as usual guys, really looking forward to the next one.

Buckle up guys. The series starts to really get rough over the next few episodes. It’s incredible what these young men went through. It gives you more appreciation of what they experienced. Great reaction like usual. Spielberg and Hanks also produced The Pacific and Masters of the Air. Both I highly recommend. The Pacific shows what the Marines went through in the Pacific fighting the Japanese and Masters of the Air shows what airman went through while fighting in the air war portion of WWII.
