We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. Owen Hargrave

one of the most important pieces of media ever. so heartbreaking, yet realistic and insightful. can’t wait to watch it again with you guys.

Alex I.

Sorry to be a party pooper guys, but looks like your mics stopped working towards the end of the movie, but we can hear your discussion afterwards xD

Michael Weiner

I’m looking forward to watching this again, with the two of you. It’s good to see your bright smiles captured above, but I can bet they weren’t inspired by this very serious and heartbreaking movie.

Martin

Fiiiiiiinally, thanks! Been patiently waiting for this one ever since it was first added on the polls. Been voting for it every single vote.

Veilsix

This one will affect how I see you as people. No pressure. I kid I kid 🤣🤣🤣🤣 No but for real 😂😂❤️❤️❤️

Leonidas Raftopoulos

Pudgey you're right! It is the same actor who plays Voldemort!

PastaDon

@2:17:20 Sorry just needed a reminder for tomorrow..

Scott Johnson

I have watched Schindler's List at least a half dozen times. Firstly, the movie is a masterpiece of cinematography, set design, acting and script. Secondly, I don't ever want to forget. Here in the US the storm clouds are brewing again and dark forces are gathering, especially with the upcoming election. We must remain vigilant lest history be allowed to repeat itself.

AG

Pudgey, it’s ok. cunt is definitely the right word for that guy lol

Morten Stenseth

It was the actors walking with the real persons puting stones, it sounds like you missed it a bit.

Patrick H.

Good call Pudgey, it is indeed Ralph Fiennes aka Voldemort :D

Valeria

I only saw this movie one other time and decided, okay. I'll do it again with S&P and really only this time did I properly think about the color choices in the film. I like to think they used b&w for two reasons: because this is a time in history where it seemed most dark, but also without color, it can be harder to differentiate people or things. The idea of the red coat on the little girl being the only thing that's in color does a lot. There's a point during the liquidation when we first see her that she's walking hurriedly but casually and I think Pudgey said something like "she's walking around like it's nothing" and I think that's intentional. A lot of people during this time were going about their lives as if this tragedy wasn't happening very close to them, or walking right by those on the streets that were being hurt, ridiculed, or outright killed as if it wasnt happening, just an every day thing at that point. Secondly, not only is it eventually a shift in Schindler's character as we can see when this little girl is dead, but it's because he took notice. This was just one little girl that was a focus for us and him, but it could've been anyone that was the focus. With the choice of the b&w we see how the Nazis see Jewish people. But with that little bit of color with the little girl i her jacket, it's the realization that each they are not to be lumped in as one and inhumanized. They are people, individual, with real lives that matter, and that's why it's also a turning point for Schindler, and also why the choice for b&w is very intentional.

JonSnow21

Fun fact: Ralph Fiennes who plays Amon Goeth was actually soo realistic in his portrayal that actual holocaust survivors had to leave the set bc of how great of an actor he is and The real Amon was actually toned down in the film bc Spielberg thought people wouldn’t believe that someone can be that evil so yea , he was alot worse in real life … Definitely the greatest film ever made in my personal opinion . The next WW2 film you guys should watch imo is The Pianist and credit to Pudgey for not seeing Schindler as a completely bad person at the start. He did use the war to his advantage and spent everything to save them , perfect redemption. P.S. it wasn’t over dramatised , it was even worse in real life.

Dashawn Brooks

I highly recommend "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" it's a mini series set during WWII

Josh

@JSM-Tac, this movie is about what happens when fascists gain power on previously unheard levels. Fascism, or right-wing nationalism, is reappearing throughout the world as people forget what it truly is. Telling someone who is worried about it to "shut up" is fucking wild.

Julien

@JMT-Tac, thank you. I second you comment. 😂

Nate Terry

Yeah, I saw the little girl in red as the visual change for schindler. He sees her...thats him noticing the horror for what is is for the first time. The next scene is him arguing with Stern(really he was wrestling with himself) about bringing that woman's elderly parents over. After that, he does little things here and there to help. Finally, when he sees the little girl in red dead, he starts buying them to save them.

Jason Sadowski

Telling the story in Black & White with limited color was done for a couple of reasons. Most importantly being that the Holocaust and events depicted occured, there is no both siding what occured. What took place was most vile evil in history there is no secondary nuanced justification, gray area or argument that can be made to better understand what happened it was nothing other than evil. The other more Hollywood reason for why it was B&W was to mask the bloodshed. What I mean is censors & the ratings board determine rating based on a number of criteria including violence & gore. People were horrified enough seeing what was depicted in B&W had it been in color it would have ended up Nc-17 even though it was depicting historical violence. The use of color with the flames is rooted in the eternal belief that even in the darkest moments in history hope still exists if we dont give up. Plus candles & their representation is deeply rooted in the Jewish faith. Using the red to highlight that little girl was to show how often suffering occurs all around us but until we connect with it on a personal level we aren't able to quantify or process it.

Veilsix

Listen to these clowns smh. I thought we were keeping this space free of politics? Freaking usual case of ppl that lack the maturity and ability to control the urge to virtue signal at every opportunity and make politics inescapable. Complaining about fascists while utilizing every fascist tool in the fascist handbook as they point fingers at everyone else and accuse them of fascism.

Scott Johnson

I said nothing nothing about politics either way, unless opposing Nazism and fascism in general is considered politics. If so, perhaps S&P's revulsion at the atrocities committed by Nazis in the movie should itself be considered political, by that warped reasoning. Anybody who thinks they are being called out by my non-politucal comment is outing themselves as one of the "dark forces". Congrats.

Owen Hargrave

Amon was easy enough to despise with his actions but my lord Ralph Fiennes, his portrayal makes him that much easier to despise. One of my favourite performances ever, he's so good.

Scott Johnson

Plus, the black and white is just gorgeous, providing so many ways to show light and shadow. For instance the Amon/Helen scene in the cellar where he is expressing his inner conflict. Daviditz' face s in half shadow. I don:t think it would have been nearly as visually impactful in color.

Veilsix

Thank you for getting through this and delivering a sobering but great reaction you two. It’s a tough watch. Personally I do it once a year as a way to honor those who had no choice but to live through the evil. Spartan is correct at the end are the real life people partnered with their actor from the film. The final figure who lays the rose and oversees Oskar’s grave is a Liam Neeson of course. And Pudgey is also right in that Goethe’s role is played by Ralph Fiennes, aka You Know Who aka Voldemort. He’s amazing in this role but in a horrifying way, to the point that some of the real life survivors visiting the set couldn’t be in his presence due to how well he invoked Goethe’s persona. The unsung hero for me is of course Sir Ben Kingsley who plays Itzhak Stern… his performance won him a bafta and I think carries the movie along with and in contrast to Fiennes. When Stern raises the list and marvels at its goodness and speaks of the life in its margins… you see his realization of what Oskar has done dawn on his face and how he looks at Schindler in a whole new light… love that moment. The train with the women of Auschwitz was the only case of prisoners being removed from the camp during its entire operation. What fear those poor women must have felt. Ps loved the insight about Goethe’s chair being kicked at repeatedly before he was able to die in contrast of him pulling the trigger repeatedly only for his weapon to jam and save the rabbi’s life. Seen this so many times and never considered that. The girl in the red dress not only symbolizes the catalyst that Oskar focuses on and through which he begins to see the war differently… but it’s also based on a young girl who was famous for wearing her red coat in the Krakow Jewish ghetto. Her name is Roma Ligocka and she actually survived the Holocaust and wrote book called “The Girl in the Red Coat.” Extremely fascinating read, it turns out she is director Roman Polanski’s cousin. In real life the two of them managed to escape the ghetto liquidation the night before it happened, but were separated for life during the escape out of necessity for survival. She ended up experiencing the worst of the Holocaust unfortunately while he was able to avoid it in America (though despite his success his troubles were far from over). Pretty crazy that Spielberg shot this and Jurassic Park in the same year and it still turned out to be one of the most important ever made in my opinion. I’m glad to have shared it with you guys.

Veilsix

As expected. Like I said. Nothing but a cheap virtue signal. I’m far from the only one who connected your not so subtle dots there Einstein. It’s funny how you’ll say enough to get your smug implication in but stop just short so you can pretend to feign innocence. Unfortunately it’s completely see through. As you said yourself “it proves your point.” But keep pretending you weren’t making one after admitting that 🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🎪

Scott Johnson

If being opposed to Nazism and fascism is "virtue signalling" as you kiddos like to call it then consider me a virtue signaller. It doesn't hurt my feelings. I suppose you think Spielberg was "virtue signalling" when he made this movie. I can imagine it would seem that way to people who consider Schindler's List not as a cautionary tale, but as a primer.

John Neiberger

Then end of this kills me every time I see it. When Schindler breaks down, wishing he had done more...it's so unbelievably sad. This is one of those rare movies that truly sits with you for a while. It takes some time for that heaviness to lift.

Lyn Hurst

I love Ralph Fiennes and his brother Joseph. Both great actors, but Ralph's role in this was so rough. Stomach churning. He did a good job of playing a complete villain.

Lyn Hurst

Yes, unfortunately much worse. I have listened to the testimony of the survivors and seen the photos from the holocaust in the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. There are testimonials from survivors which are pretty jarring but heartwarming as the ways they survived were pretty miraculous. If anyone is interested, look up the Shoah Foundation testimonies on YouTube.

Lyn Hurst

Thanks, for watching, Spartan and Pudgey. I knew it would gut you as it did me. It is meant to be a reminder to not let history repeat itself. Unfortunately, it has in some areas of the world. Not political but a reminder to never forget lest we repeat the same atrocities. I was thinking about how the Nazis were fed a load of garbage about Jews and others (gypsies, disabled people, and so on) not being actual people. That is how they justified doing the most despicable things. Like Pudgey said, the little girl who was screaming good bye Jews, had no idea what she was doing. They trained some of the young boys whom they called the Hitler Youth at age 12. Some of the things taught were to deny their families and report them if they were not on board with the Nazi party's thinking. I loved this movie, but I will not watch it again either. My third time. I realized I had blocked some things out probably due to trauma inducing scenes. It was also my second year of sobriety so still had a lot of cobwebs in my brain lol.

Patrick H.

Totally agree, he's such a great actor. When you truly hate the character you know the actor did an awesome job.

Scott Johnson

Yep. He should have gotten the Oscar. Pure evil but somehow charismatic at the same time. There is an interview with Fiennes on YouTube from around the time the movie came out where he talks about the role. You can see his real personality and it so different from Amon Goeth it's hard to reconcile the actor and the role.

Lyn Hurst

Ralph Fiennes is an amazing actor, and some of the looks in his eyes were pure evil.

Lyn Hurst

Hey I agree with you on the principles of non fascism, but you did make it political by mentioning the upcoming election. Not splitting hairs, just saying your statement about it not being political would only be valid if you mentioned fascism in general.

Scott Johnson

@Lyn Hurst How do fascists come to power? Sometimes it's by coup, sometimes it's by election. The Nazis were voted into power in 1933. Hitler was exercising the power the German people bestowed on him. They are complicit in his crimes. Having an election is no absolution. It can happen again. However, in my comment I didn't mention a person, a party, or even a policy position. This was by design. Yet, people assumed I was talking about their side. That's telling. They consider themselves among the worrying "dark forces" apparently.

I find it crazy that its winter in OZ but Summer here and Oz winter is probably warmer lmao

One movie I thought I'd never rewatch but here I am! Cried as much as I thought I would in this reaction haha. I agree with the post discussion I can't handle any sort of justification for what was happening every scene was just horrendous. I always struggle with the topic of war also in todays world.

AlrightThere

Ralph Fiennes is an amazing actor! He normally plays bad guys but I've enjoyed everything he's been in.

Jason, you are correct...there are no two sides to this....that is why what is going on in Israel is so disgusting, what happened on 10/7 was same thing....We are always defending ourselves....ALWAYS, we are NEVER the aggressors....we only want people to realize that here....Unfortunately you have kids that are being indoctrinated by their Liberal teachers and saying that Palestinians are the victims. Yes they are, thats correct, but not because of Israel. Its Hamas...If only people came here and saw how it really was. We especially love when we see signs that say Gays for Gaza or trans for Gaza....They dont realize they would be safe here, and if they stepped foot in Gaza, it would take a few minutes for them to be killed....thats not an exaggeration

Katie

after being runner up at least five times.. it’s finally here lol

Katie

i’ve actually never seen this movie either so i finally have an excuse to watch it after i finish watching fallout with yall

When we lived in Europe we visited 3 of the camps (Dachau, Auschwitz, & Bergen-Belsen) which are now memorial sites. The moment you arrive at them the feeling of absolute evil & sadness hits you physically. The memorials are so quiet, it's as if birds don't sing there, trees don't move in the wind. They're just voids on the earth, the air full of dread. Most memorial sites are solemn & quiet places, & the camps are too but there's no sense of peace in them. Anyone who gets the opportunity to visit one of these places should take it. IMHO everyone should go at least once. It's important that we don't forget what's possible when humanity loses humanity.

Lyn Hurst

You are too funny, PastaDon. I am the Queen of the unsolicited novel on reaction channels (well mainly just this one). The other reaction channels I watch are mostly music and true crime.

Lyn Hurst

It is the coolest July I can remember here in Western PA. I woke up this morning to 59 F (15 C) weather. It only reached about 20 degrees higher today. 80 F. Very strange for July - I live on the muggy East Coast of US. I am loving this nicer weather. I feel for those who are experiencing scorching weather and wild fires in many states right now.

Josh

@Veilsix "Freaking usual case of ppl that lack the maturity and ability to control the urge to virtue signal at every opportunity and make politics inescapable." My guy, politics is what caused the Holocaust. Schindler's List is about the Holocaust. Don't be mad at others just because your viewing experience was like looking into a mirror.

Lyn Hurst

It is that way at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. It is this huge wall of marble or granite which is black and has all the names of the soldiers who died in the war etched in it. It is always quiet there. It is breathtaking and solemn at the same time.

Robin Lee Melendez

Yes, I have visited twice. Beautiful memorial. The WWII & Korea memorials there are really special as well

Julien

@Scott Johnson - Oh my god will you shut the fuck up. This is a movie reaction, not a forum for political lectures. Take that shit elsewhere. Fuck man.

Riley X

I'm german and we watched it over multiple days in school in history class. I could barely remember it so I just watched it again with you. yea its good to see it to know what has happened.

HDN

I was on a 4 month holiday break and couldn't watch any of the reactions (was still subscribed to you the whole time but didn't get alone time to watch anything). So I've been catching up on your uploads for the last week and I must say I'm happy I didn't watch this as soon as you dropped it cause I genuinely have something to say and it's gonna kill me if I don't say it but it's better if little to no one sees it lol, cause I don't have the energy for any backlash. That said, it absolutely boggles my mind that someone who has been treated in such an inhuman way would inflict the same horror on someone else. Not everyone did it of course, but I will never be able to understand even one person who's a holocaust survivor and who would accept to live in a home that has been stolen from a Palestinian, or sit and watch a horrific high tech murder spree being carried out in his name. I genuinely will never come to understand that. Shoutout to every holocaust survivor who dedicated their life for speaking against such horrors ever happening to any human being on this planet, and implementing the "never again" motto on literally everyone, no matter the victim and no matter the aggressor. These movies (holocaust movies, the hunger games movies, or any other movie about an oppressed people) always ruin my day/week when I watch them, because I hate the fact that every horror in this world has only been denounced after it ended not while it was being carried out. And its end usually only triggers the beginning of a new horror in the world. What a depressing reality and what a corrupt creature the human being is.

Habman

Tough movie to watch. Yes they are the real survivors but they were with the actors who played them in the movie. Well done reacting
