It is possible that Corlys has Targaryen ancestry as it was mentioned they have intermarried since Valyria however we have no records before the Doom. Also, it was mentioned by Jace last episode that it might just be Valyrian blood needed and not just 'blood of the dragon' which was more than likely a lie spun by the Targaryens to justify their customs and to keep the Dragons in the family.

Why did they turn her lesbian? That's so random and out of the blue. Does not fit with the storyline at all.

lemmy

i think we've had plenty of evidence through the show she ain't a lesbian lol. Not sure how it doesn't fit the storyline either there were definitely affectionate and close vibes from her relationship with Alicent before they fell out with each other, lying with her head in her lap and dreaming of flying through the skies on her dragon together, making a comment that she was very comfortable to be where she was right then, and so on, that it doesn't really seem that hard to believe she'd be bi. I mean the hints were in the book written before the show was even in production, and could lead to some interesting places?

Rhaena is in the Vale. Silverwing and Vermithor are both at dragonstone, the dragon that they where seeing is a wild dragon born near the Vale. So will not be one that the dragon keepers know at dragonstone

YamYam777

The dragons don't usually just go flying around so you won't see Vermithor or Silverwing just flying around the skies. They stay at dragonstone until their riders take them out

I disagree, there were no hints or clues of the main character having lesbian tendencies leading up to the kiss scene. If there were hints then Pudgy or Spartan wouldn't have misread the direction of the scene either. Not sure where these suppressed lesbian/bi feelings emerged from at all. Seems like lazy and provocative writing for no reason.

I just literally pointed one out - in ep 1 of the entire show in what I believe was her second ever scene on screen, that scene literally had me thinking 'are they implying some kind of possible romantic interest in this scene?', not to mention her rather unique understanding attitude towards Laenor's sexuality not seen by any other character in the show - also the show has established she's not a lesbian am not sure why you keep repeating that. It's just kinda weird you're so bothered by this, oh turns out she is bi and has developed some feelings towards a woman while she's been estranged by her husband. So what? I fail to see how it's a big issue in any sense. Totally natural a woman in that political environment with that societies views on woman and sexuality would grow up into her 30s without being in a position to act on any such feelings they may have had to that point, or maybe even surpress them and deny to themselves those feelings exist. There was no scene where she went 'kissing a girl? URGH what an appalling thought' either so not sure where the foreshadowing that she was straight and not bi was either beyond statistical assumption. I'm failing to see what foreshadowing they'd be required to do beyond the one I already mentioned and the fact you'd think its that big a deal to complain about is a bit odd. She didn't turn into a robot or pull a mask off and reveal herself to be Aegon the Conquerer or anything so outlandish as to require heavy foreshadowing or justification, she had some internal feelings of attraction to women she'd never acted on, and then finally did in this scene. And I only can suspect that whatever additional scene could have been added earlier to 'hint or clue' would have just been met with the same reaction that there were no clues prior to that, if it weren't subtle enough. And if it was subtle or ambiguous enough to not provoke this reaction from you (like the ep 1 clue) you'd not notice it and still react this way when it's made explicit. Find it hard to see how they could have made her bi at all without it being some core aspect of her they made a big obvious deal of it every episode to avoid you reacting this way, and then you or if not you then others would instead be complaining they were going on about it too much and shoving it down our throats. So seems they can't really win. More specifically, what does her being bi make 'not fit' with the storyline exactly? Bi people are more likely to approve of child beheadings? A Bi person would be less likely to go to kings landing to meet Alicent? Bi people would be less likely to ask kingsguard to try tame a dragon? Finding it hard to decode how her being bi fits the story less tbh rather than just an aspect of her personality that has been revealed explicitly in this episode. When did learning new facets of a character a season and a half into a show become an issue? A ton of shows reveal new things about characters seasons and seasons in without there needing to be all these clues set up to justifying them, people are complicated and keep some of their feelings and thoughts secret. Also its just kinda nice for all the bi people out there to get a bit more representation so everyone understands them better, since like yourself a lot of people just seem very confused and suspicious of bi people existing and talk of 'turning lesbian' or that because all their partners in their life are one gender that their bi feelings aren't valid or just a phase or all kinda weird things, forcing them onto the straight or gay team and they get that kinda discrimination from both sides a lot, as media only has tended to represent people as either straight or gay in the past. Bi people existing shouldn't be 'provocative' by now it's not the 1950s, and the fact you use that word feels telling. If anything your reaction is proof people need to be exposed to bi people existing more not less. So yeah not gonna complain, even if there weren't hints both in the show and book as it really doesn't affect me at all. I'm just in it for what that kiss could mean for the plot and didn't need 10 scenes of her blowing kisses and winking at women and talking about how much she likes boobs prior to justify it I guess. I learnt something I didn't previously know about a character, as I do in most good TV shows every episode. Just looked on the last ep's comments for your comment complaining that Daemon's weird mommy validation issues weren't hinted at in previous episodes and didn't fit the story and came out of the blue, and someone having sex with their mother in a dream is provocative, and weirdly I'm just not seeing anything there. Odd that on a show that contains incest, brutality, rape, child murder and everything else and its this specific type of character revelation that bothers you so much and deem provocative enough as to need to comment on it despite not seemingly commenting on anything prior? *shrugs* makes you think. This is a perfectly normal and realistic thing to have happened. We may be surprised when it goes down, I went 'oh wow!' at the screen when it happened even despite what I thought in S1 and read in the books, but I'd reflect on the reasons you reacted so negatively towards it. If a bi person came out to you IRL, would you chastise them for having given insufficient clear evidence to hint at their bi'ness prior to coming out to you? Or disbelieve them because of not seeing them ever hint at it and saying it doesn't 'fit'? Just a weird reaction.

Daemon in therapy whilst his wife is hooking up with his ex 😂 he’s gonna end up going straight back.

Julien

There have been hints that Rhaenyra could go both ways since literally the pilot of the series. People have been speculating about the nature of her bond with Alicent since literally the pilot, and for good reason.

Dani

this was so well said. so much homophobia in these comments i stg. this was hinted at from episode one between Rhaenyra & Alicent. did anyone even watch their interaction in 2x3??? if you can’t recognize the queer context of this show, there should be some self reflection on your heteronormative beliefs

DominaZeta

I think you're being a little too hard on Alicent. Those kids had a father (Viserys) who apparently didn't do a stellar parenting job either, and a grandfather (Otto) who set a terrible, scheming example as well. Traditionally, it's fathers and grandfathers who teach young boys how to be decent men, right? As for her not knowing her son Daeron, sending younger siblings away to ward with other noble houses (in this case, his mother's family) was a common way to strengthen alliances and give opportunities to the kids who weren't expected to rule. Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon were both sent to ward in the Vale, so their families wouldn't have seen them for years either. (Sadly, no phones in Westeros.) That situation doesn't make her a bad mother. (She's been a crap mother on many other occasions where she had a choice, granted.)

Velaryon and Targaryen blood has been mixed for a long time. And I think he reminded Seasmoke of Laenor in a way so that’s why he chose him

Franky E

This is so narrow minded lol “turn her lesbian” as if people in real life don’t experiment or branch out to dating genders other than what they’ve done in the past lmao. Also there’s a thing called “situational sexuality” too. People love to say “not everything is about sexuality” whenever characters are blatantly queer, but then when a character is suddenly non-Herero they’re like “wait why didn’t they tell us this person wasn’t hetero”

Franky E

The idea of Pudgey being Alys is so funny especially if you think of Spartan being Daemon, Pudgey’s just dropping in at random times being mysterious and creepy annoying tf out of Spartan and then disappearing lmao

Franky E

ALSO I personally thought Rhaenyra and Mysaria had some insane chemistry in earlier scenes too so idk what other foreshadowing do you want

Franky E

Great analysis on the the daemon/viserys scenes by the way

Demo

Daeron is going to come in like prime Lebron.

mike

u guys should 100% react to vikings , dont think ive seen reactings about it here

Kelsey

"turn her lesbian" did you forget bisexuality is a thing??

Kelsey

Seasmoke was thought to be missing his rider that left him suddenly. Addam and Alyn are Laenor's half brothers, so it makes sense why Seasmoke would be drawn to Addam.

neutchain

I'm just happy Alicent didn't hear Aegon calling out to her Mommy! She would've thought he just named her his heir lol :)

K

I think the only relevant thing for Seasmoke is that Leanor and Addam are half brothers and looks alike.

So I also found it a bit random with Rhaenyra and Mysaria, but I've been reflecting on it, and I remembered that in the books it is said that Rhaenyra, Daemon, Laena (and I think even maybe Leanor as well) were in a polygamous relationship of sorts. Like they had threesomes and slept together. So by the book Rhaenyra (and Daemon too if Leanor was indeed there) is bi because she was with Laena and Daemon before Laena died. So I think this might be the shows way of exploring that side of Rhaenyra by way of Mysaria, instead of Laena. Also wanted to say that I think this is Rhaenyra starting to find her footing as a Queen and ruler. She's slowly starting to take on and embrace the aspects of a King. It's like she's exploring the aspects of how she wanted to be a man (like when she was talking about Daemon was everything she wished to be, carefree dangerous, a man etc) She slapped her advisor, and reminded him that he needs to respect her (reminded him of his place) she's taking on the sword, she's kissing a woman (as a man would) and when her Kingsguard alerts her that Seasmoke has been spotted with a rider and asks if she would like him to summon her council, she chooses to take Syrax and go fly herself to meet him, as a brave King would. This episode to me was about Rhaenyra finding her footing and becoming more comfortable and confident in her role as Queen.
