Maybe you guys should watch a documentary regarding this whole accident it is always very interesting

Carrie Smith

I did after watching Chernobyl then also watched "Meltdown" about the incident that occurred on Three Mile Island in PA since I live in neighboring WV and was born in 1977.

They had to kill the cow at the beginning because they were ordered to kill all animals because their meat, eggs, milk would all be contaminated ass well. It wasn't cruel, but had to be done. That elderly lady couldn't comprehend the threat she was facing.

She could, she just didn't care. She wanted to die by her late husbands side... and that's fair enough.

Guys the next episode is super important for you to understand what really happened so make sure you're ready to absorb a bit of science. It's only nuclear physics so not that complidated :) At the beginning, the guy who shot the cow was doing the same thing like the kid's group with the dogs. The milk was likely contaminated and they were gonna put the cow down anyway. It's important to understand how big a deal was to accept anything from West Germany at that time. After the 2nd World War ended, the Soviet Union occupied East Germany and the Allies occupied West Germany. The Soviets built a wall across Berlin ( the famous Berlin Wall ) and everything on the West Side was basically Allied territory, full of American and British spies according to the Soviets. ( not far off btw ) So accepting anything from them was a huge deal. There were a few diplomatic occasions when the US was giving the Soviets something they needed ( info, material help in emergencies, etc ) but they would never have accepted it from the US if they had used West Germany as the middle-man it looked much better as it is not coming from the Americans. Looks were everything. Regarding the people being sent on the roof, the guy who was giving them the briefing and the thanks at the end is the same guy from the military who went in himself to measure how much was the real radiation for t he first time. He did it himself because he didn't want to expose his men. This time he didn't have a choice and you could tell that it weighed on him. As usual, Stellan Skarsgard was brilliant in this episode and I really like his friendship with Legasov. Such a good duo. Regarding the emergency shutdown button, Komyuk was right when she said that Diatlov and the people giving him orders were indeed guilty for the explosion but its not only their fault. They've done everything knowing they can shut it down if shit goes wrong but nobody knew that fault can lead to this because it was classified. The issue that they've experienced before with the AZ-5 button was very different because the state of the reactor was very different. You drive your car much slower and carefully when you know your break is fucked lol
