Here we go baby

I just want to say that Star Wars may have taken some inspiration from Dune, but ultimately they are nothing alike, specially in terms of the vibes of each franchise. So when you do go into Star Wads, don't go into Star Wars expecting Dune 😆 mods, delete this comment if this is something they may not want to read.

Dune has become my absolute favorite sci-fi epic. Dune part one was absolutely incredible but dune part two takes it to a whole new level. Probably my favorite movie of all time.

Jamis the fremen Paul killed said that he would teach Paul the way of the desert in his visions and then in real life Jamis forced Paul into a fight to the death which ultimately taught Paul the way of the desert. And when Paul saw that he would die in real life a part of him had to die to take Jamis' life. The visions were more metaphorically true than literally true

***IMPORTANT MOD MESSAGE PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING**** CLARIFYING DUNE 1 IS FINE! SPOILERS FOR THE FUTURE STORY IS NOT! THEY **WILL** BE DELETED/S&P WILL NOT READ THEM SO DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! Thank you for your patronage on this journey! I am looking forward to their reactions to other Villeneuve movies at some point in the future, myself =)

Whenever y'all do get to watching Star Wars I strongly recommend watching in the so-called "Machete" order, which is 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. I showed my wife the movies for the first time using this order and it is absolutely a great way to go. With that order you watch the prequel movies at the perfect time right before the conclusion of the overall storyline.

Just to clarify, I love Dune, the books and the new movies but, Dune was not the first big science fiction book. Was written as a counterpoint to the Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov. Dune took inspiration on Foundation as Star Wars took from Dune. You should check the Foundation series sometime, it's good ;)

Max Tuzzolino

This was amazing. So pumped for you both to watch Part 2!!

Paul has to die. Before the fight, the voice says "when you take a life, you take your own". Soby killing someone he kills himself, metaphorically fullfilling his vision

Chris C

Duncan died like Barristan the bold 😢

My man Oscar Isaac wanted to be a Pilot instead of a Duke in Dune. At least he got to be one in Star Wars lol

WATCH STAR WAURRRRRRRS!!!

I may have to find a good spoiler-free lore video for you guys to watch. Basically they had to whittle down the details a LOT in order to tell a story that could actually be kept track of in a reasonable time frame. It's one reason DUNE was always considered "Unfilmable". I'll throw in a bit of lore here. Basically, this takes place not 10,000 years in the future, but 10,000 years after humans defeated AI and banned computers, in a war that takes place like 20,000 years in the future. Since computers are banned, a ton of human advancement has had to come from training the human mind. But it's taxing to train a mind to be that prolific, so they tend to specialize. Groups like the Mentats focus on directly replacing computers, being able to form insane calculations, make crazy predictions, and absorb and process tons of information. The Bene Gesserit started 10,000 years ago and were key in winning the war against AI. They are more or less an all-female group that specializes in things like reading people and controlling their own bodies to an insane degree. Hence being able to choose the gender of the baby. They can also inherit memories. The voice is an extreme extension of suggestion. By reading a person, and saying the right thing at the right time with the right tone of voice, it basically glitches them out and they do what you said. Paul, meanwhile, is trained as both a Mentat AND a Bene Gesserit. Also, if it wasn't clear from the movie, the existence of shields makes guns useless in most scenarios. So that's why their ground combat is comparatively low tech. The moment shields aren't an option (Drive worms crazy. Nuclear explosion if one of those lasers touches it.) the guns come right out. The vision stuff is trippy for me. He is seeing potential things in the future, but as you saw, it doesn't necessarily happen. But then he is able to learn from these future situations and use that information in the present....even if that future never happens. It works, but it's trippy. Super cool stuff.

Jonathanese

Yeah. Killing someone was pretty torturous to him, and he sees it as killing part of who he is. The Bene Gesserit voices are telling him to let go of that.

Timothee was the son in Interstellar

Foundation on Apple TV is HIGHLY underrated. I wish it had been on a different platform because it’s incredibly well done. So I second- if you like Dune then watch Foundation. Several shows on Apple TV get no recognition because the platform doesn’t have enough viewers, but they are really well done- Raised By Wolves and SILO, for example. They would’ve been big hits on Prime or HBO. 😔😔😔

Fábio Braz

I loved Silo. Never watched Raised By Wolves tho. But Silo was really reeeeallly good.

Paul’s father is also Moon Knight btw. And Stilgar (fremen leader) is Salazar from Pirates 5
