Tingeling

Something I love about this show is that events have long lasting consequences, and the characters carry their grief for a long time. So many shows have their characters grieve or be affected by dramatic events for an episode or two, maybe to the end of a season, but then it’s like they forget all about it. ”Stranger Things” does not go that route, thankfully. Hopper continues to grieve for Sarah, not always explicitly, but for example in how protective he is of El (and as somebody else already mentioned, I love the fact that she now wears her sister’s blue hair tie - just imagine what that must mean to him). Nancy continues to grieve for Barbara, and that loss keeps motivating her throughout the show, and maybe her drive to figure out what happened to her in the first season helped set her on the path towards wanting to be a journalist. Joyce still grieves for Bob; it’s clear it was not just a casual relationship but that she was in love with him and he made her happy, and she’s not ready to move on from his loss. What happens to these characters, the traumas they go through, shape them and affect them, they don’t just forget and move on. Not only does that make them feel more real and fleshed-out, it also makes the stakes so much higher, because you know it has actual long-lasting impact.
