I’m with you 100 %. I am team L/Mello/Near. I love Light as a character, but I view him as an anti-hero/ villain protagonist, and I want him to lose. It was the same for me when I watched ”Dexter”, I was always rooting for him to get caught. Somebody said (I wish I could remember who) that ”Death Note” is essentially Sherlock Holmes v.s James Moriarty but through Moriarty’s POW. I don’t think you have to root for a main character to enjoy their story. Another great example is Scarlett O’Hara. She’s not a serial killer like Light and Dexter, but she’s a dreadful person, yet following her story in ”Gone with the Wind” is so entertaining. Anyway, point being, I’ve never rooted for Light for a single moment yet that almost makes ”Death Note” better. You’re able to enjoy following the protagonist’s story while at the same time cheering for the antagonists.
