I feel like they got some of the important scenes right, like the ocean spirit was better than I could have ever dreamed, but overall I'm sad this was not better. I don't think I hated it as much as everybody else, but I really see how a few key decisions could have made this good. I have faith that the next season might be better!

As always, I loved watching some Avatar content with y'all. My girlfriend refuses to watch any animated shows, so I am so happy that the Netflix adaptation happened so that she could give Avatar a chance. To my surprise, she was absolutely engrossed within the first 10 minutes. Watching the show through her perspective, I understand some of the decisions that were made. And upon multiple rewatches, I'm kind of impressed with how the writers were able to weave the storylines together. That being said, some of the dialogue was stiff, and other times, it was fantastic. Now that the world of Avatar was established, I hope seasons 2 and 3 can slow down the pace a bit. I felt like the actors really shined when they had the time for their characters to breathe. Overall, I really enjoyed the show. The world looks beautiful, the bending feels tangible, the characters feel authentic, and I'm so happy to see a fantasy story full of Asian representation. I understand the criticisms, and agree to some extent, but the outright hate confuses me. At the end of the day, I'm just excited that I can finally nerd out about Avatar with my girlfriend!
