Currently can't trigger the maid scenes at all anymore on this version of the game. Is this a bug or is it something that needs to be re-unlocked?

No, you don't need to re-unlock anything. Did you receive the payment for your previous job? Do you wear maid dress? If both of these points are true and you still have a problem - send me your save folder at yeehawgames@gmail.com and I will check it.

I know this may not be related to this post, but I'm having a REALLY hard time on the orb puzzle in the sand mountains. I was wondering if you could help me out, or if there is something that I'm missing. Thanks for the new update too!

Placing an orb on any pedestal removes obstacles. Taking the orb into the inventory will cause a wall to appear. So you need to get enough orbs to open a passage by manipulating the pedestals. One such pedestal can be linked to several gates. The North-Eastern path need 3 orbs too but the pedestals are placed over the entire level. One of them is the same as for the central passage. If you want more of a walkthrough, here it is: Take one orb in the center of the room. Go left and place it on the pedestal, proceed further to the left and take the orb there. Get the orb you just placed on the pedestal back. Check out the lower-left corner of the map. Get inside the U-shaped corridor from the top and pick up the second orb from the top. Leave as you entered. Get to the central chest passage and place 3 orbs on the pedestals directly to the left. Loot everything in the opened room. Take back the 2 lowest orbs from what you placed right now. Navigate to the center of the room and place an orb on the pedestal get back into the U-shaped corridor on the left from the top and pick the remaining orb. Use the two orbs you have on two pedestals directly below you and exit the U-shaped corridor via the bottom passage. Check out the North-Eastern passage and loot the strange handle for crafting a good weapon later.
