BIG September 2023 Update (Patreon)

Hello Patrons old and new! We hope 2023 is treating you all well =) We're currently in pretty high spirits with our first public live event being a big success and our shorts doing gangbusters on all platforms.

This post is just going to be a rundown of where we are and what to expect in the coming months.

We'll get the serious stuff out of the way first.

The team had a meeting last week and it became apparent to us all that constantly shifting gears to try and keep up with the ever-changing online world was having a detrimental effect on not just us but the videos we were making. Trying to play the YouTube game is exceptionally draining and we feel that lack of energy is going to start leaking into the content, if it hasn't already.

As a result of this, we've decided to streamline everything in order to focus more on what we enjoy - making videos for all of you. This does mean dropping a few things that are eating up time, such as the Just the Facts video we were trialling and the Discord we've been struggling to maintain.

Karl has never been shy about getting into YouTube after seeing articles he wrote making a load of money as videos but, if we aren't having fun doing this, then we may as well just go out and find less stressful work. Hopefully, you'll all be able to see the positive impact of these changes in future videos.

Now for the fun stuff!

We're going to be releasing two new Patreon-specific videos every month:

• The first is what we are calling the "shitpost video" which will be exclusive to Patrons and be full of random clips/outtakes/updates from the previous month. We realised we always record a lot of funny behind-the-scenes stuff but can never figure out a way to use it so we thought it would be fun to let everyone in on what we've been up to in a funny and unique way.
• The second will be a monthly Fact Fiend Focus video released on the main channel. It will likely be longer than Focus videos of the past and the topic of this video will be voted on by Patrons. The Focus videos are always simple to record but extremely fun. Our credit and shout out rewards will start appearing in this video.

Our public Rock Band Karaoke event was extremely successful! We're in tentative talks to run another one in the first week of October. But the biggest news... we now also have a drum kit! The Fact Fiend band will become a reality...

For anyone who enjoys the variety content on the Untitled Side Channel, we have a few videos in the pipeline which should reach your screens in the next few weeks:

• Lucas is working on completing the latest Fact Feud episode
• Nisha and I will be competing in a Photoshop challenge
• We'll be uploading a condensed version of our tabletop RPG stream
• The team will be going head-to-head in Mario Party
• Friend of the channel Adam will be running sports quiz for myself and Nisha

We've made some changes to the Patreon tiers/rewards so have a look and see how these changes might impact you. We've also changed the URL for the Patreon back to patreon.com/factfiend to reflect our primary focus once again being the main channel.

We know our output has been a little sporadic these past few months but this is hopefully the last time we'll be making drastic changes anytime soon. Everyone has always told us they appreciate our transparency so I hope our earnestness and honesty over this is coming across.
