Apologies all, the video that was supposed to be dropping this week is not ready. To possibly paraphrase Shigeru Miyamoto:

A delayed [video] is eventually good, a bad [video] is bad forever.

This is as true on YouTube as it is on game cartages. No patching or editing after publication is possible, it's one of the really quite stressful things about video production.

This video is my most important one to date, perhaps the culmination of my series (though not finish of it): This is the video you send to your CTO to get them to trial out Rust at your company.

At least, that's the plan.

There's much less code, because managers don't care about beautiful code - and they're right to do so - and more focus on PRACTICALITIES. How can we train people, hire them, retain them and who do we ask for help when it all goes wrong? These are the questions decision makers care about, and I've got answers backed up with numbers in this video.

Of course, there's also the tech side in there too, why it's such a good language to build robust production projects in, etc.

I hope you enjoy the screenshot (my editor is obsidian.md btw). I wonder if there are more photos of Linus in this pose than any other. I have balanced this out in the following slide with a more official headshot of him looking normal. I have nothing but the greatest respect for Linus, he's got a difficult job for life there.

Thank you so much for your support, it is so great that I have the option to turn DOWN sponsorship for generic youtube sponsors (squarespace, nordvpn etc etc) and if you have been paying attention to the #vip-no-boilerplate channel on discord (a private channel only patrons can access) you will have seen the discussion where I rejected two sponsors, even though they were tangentially related to my channel. (a note-taking app and an education platform).

This freedom to turn down good money is paid for by you wonderful patrons, thank you so much, I hope the video next week you will consider worth the wait! I will be back to a fortnightly schedule after then.

Thank you again,

Tris

As someone who is slowly incorporating Rust into my tiny corner of our game studio's tech-art pipeline, the day will come when I am asked why I went with Rust over just running with C++. I plan to have some practical working examples implemented by then, to provide context for that decision. But I am also gathering content which covers exactly that same question. To hear that No Boilerplate is tackling this very subject is so welcome. Please take all the time you need!

I'm excited for you Nicholas! This is just the sort of reason why I started this project :-)

Update: I had flu, and am only now getting over it - in hindsight, this was a lingering problem that made it difficult to write, too! Kicking its ass today, hopefully better tomorrow!
