Here is the Anubis excerpt going in the newsletter. I wanted you guys to see it first. It is unedited.

Takes place on a plane

****

Craige continued to leer only now there were fangs where ordinary eyeteeth had been. “What’s wrong Dr. Dante. Getting all hot and bothered.”

“You’re fifty percent right.” It was out of Reese’s mouth before he could stop it.

“Then I guess I better work on getting a perfect score.” He leaned forward. The adequate space between the seats shrank to nothing. “You don’t have a clue do you?”

The corridor Seung had gone down was empty.

All of Nox’s attention was on Luca.

A burning touch slid up Reese’s thigh and he startled.

Green flickered in Craige’s eyes. “We could always step into one of those little rooms and I could educate you.”

“I don’t think that would be…”

Craige slid his fingers higher and Reese squeezed his legs together. “I’d rather you not…” And why did that feel like a lie? Reese’s heart skipped.

“Or maybe you prefer I teach you right here where everyone can see. Unlike the Varu, I have no qualms about fucking in public.”

Reese unsnapped his seat belt and scurried out of reach. He fully expected Craige to follow but instead, the man stretched out and opened his knees as far as the seat allowed. His jeans molded over the thick outline of his dick. “Just let me know when you change your mind.”

There would never be a when. Reese moved closer to Nox and Luca.

Craige licked his lips and Reese scooted down till his hip hit Nox’s bare foot where he’d propped it on the couch. “Sorry I—“ Reese made some space. Not too much because even an inch closer to Craige was too close.

Nox blinked and looked up. “Did you need something?”

“Uh…would you mind if…” Reese patted the seat.

“No.” Nox flicked a look at Craige and he turned back around in his seat. “Is there a problem?”

If Reese said yes he was pretty sure they’d wind up with a lot of blood on the furniture, floor, windows, ceiling...

Everywhere.

If he said no Nox would smell the lie.

“Out of curiosity.” Reese lowered his voice. “Do I smell funny to you?”

“Funny?”

“Like…like Craige said. You know, how I smelled.”

Nox’s eyebrows crashed together. “You don’t smell any different than you always have.”

Reese slumped. So, there was nothing different. He smelled the same. Unless he’d always smelled like sex and chocolate. That would explain why he smell the same. And if he’d always smelled like that then what did it mean? Did he even want to know? Was it diet? Hormones? Some chemical imbalance in his metabolic system. A build of ketones in his blood? That could create a sweet smell but Reese had never read about it being described as chocolate and most certainly not…

“Dr. Dante,” Nox said.

Reese looked up. “Yes?”

“You sure there isn’t a problem?”

“I think I should get my blood sugar checked.”

“Your bl—”

Seung returned from the hall. She held a small tray of wrapped pastries. “It’s all I could find.” She held out the bottle of water.

Reese took it.

“You can have your pick.” She set the tray on one of three small tables dividing the space in front of the couch.

So much for blood sugar. Reese selected a honey bun.
