DevLog #89: September 2023 (Patreon)

Hi everyone, time for the monthly DevLog 😊 Dive in to see what I've been up to 😋.
Super Night Riders S1
I have rewritten the UI system, making it possible to spawn UI elements in any scene.
For instance, you can now change graphic settings during a race!
This enhancement will also benefit the Light Fairytale series, allowing for equipment/orb changes during a battle!
Here's an unlisted video showcasing a prototype of the title screen.

With this, I am one step closer to making my game framework engine-independent. It's better to be safe than sorry, especially with all the recent drama surrounding Unity 😅.
If you're wondering, the new Unity pricing changes don't affect me at the moment, but I have concerns regarding the long-term stability of the company.
I have implemented a new 'Sanpo' (stroll) mode, in which you can walk freely through the stages while enjoying the soundtrack 🎧.
A peek at a long-standing request in the series: Hair (and more) physics 😅.
"Does it come in black?" 🤔
Now you can change the colors of cars, motorbikes, hair, and clothes!
Added support for 4:3 aspect ratio, perfect for CRTs 📺
Speaking of which, check out the new top-down view on a rotated CRT: The Sony PVM-9L3.
Playing the game like this gives off a vibe of an actual - albeit unreleased - arcade 😁.
Also added 16:10 support for the Valve Steam Deck! Here's the current prototype running natively on Linux!
Got one during the recent sale, mainly to use it as a devkit. Now I can properly test and optimize all of my games for it - and Linux in general.
Another way to enjoy the game on a handheld device is through PC streaming on Android using apps like Moonlight.
Here, on the Surface Duo, which can serve as a fantastic handheld thanks to its 4:3 OLED displays! My boss isn't too impressed though 😅.
Light Fairytale Episode 3
Excited to share a new illustration of a playable character in Episode 3.
I'll keep the details about her under wraps for now 🤐
4K version attached!
3rd Fairytale 😮
Here's the design of the female protagonist for the 3rd installment in the 'Fairytale' series - following Light Fairytale and Dark Fairytale.
This project is a story-driven action/puzzle platformer, drawing major inspiration from 'Prince of Persia' (Apple II/MS-DOS).
Still playing around with the color palette though 😅.
A bit early to be working on a new game, you might ask?
Well, my goal for both DF and this 3rd project is to create good-looking, playable prototypes that I could pitch to publishers.
With the fully released 'Light Fairytale' and 'Super Night Riders' series under my belt, I'm hopeful that these projects will secure decent funding for better - and faster - production 😁
However, all of this will come into play after the releases of LF Episode 3 & 4 and SNR S1 & S2.
So, I'll need to have these prototypes ready by then!
What's Next
Next month, there will be an event on Steam featuring playable demos from upcoming games.
I plan to participate with Super Night Riders S1, so you'll have a chance to play it very soon 😊
The Early Access is still on track for November.
That's all for now!
Thank you so much for your support and patience. See you soon 😊
