DevLog #51: July 2020 (Patreon)

Hi everyone! It's almost August so the crazy temperatures are coming back! 34 degrees Celsius in my room as I'm writing...

Anyway, here's what I've been working on this past month!

I've completed the 1st half of the Ice Lair in Light Fairytale Episode 2, including all the locations and events, and the sub-boss battle.

I've also started working on the 2nd half, which will go all the way up to the battle with the Elemental of Ice.

I'm still planning to release Episode 2 on Steam Early Access with two thirds of the content, probably in September / October 2020 - which will be 2 years after the Early Access of Episode 1! (November 2018). The full version on Steam will be around January 2021, and the console versions following soon after that.

Though this time, I wanted to put Light Fairytale (LF) on the side and write a bit about my second big project, Dark Fairytale (DF).

Actually, I've started designing DF before LF. Here's a few designs of Rachel and her Doll that I made myself in 2013.

As you can see, I was planning to make everything myself, including the art! Here's an early cutscene test that I also made.

Fast forward to 2020, I'm now working with a very talented character designer and modeler from Japan, so here's the latest design of Doll Rachel that I've received this month!

Unlike LF, I've decided to give up on the chibi style for DF and use more realistic proportions. The main reason is that such models will work better for action scenes. DF will be a mix of shoot 'em up and action adventure in 3rd person view.

DF is still at concept stage, but I will try to have a playable prototype this year.

... and an Anime background from Light Fairytale. This is race city, slums located at the outside of the capital's wall, where everyone have only one thing in mind: Winning the race to be allowed to live in the capital. Alice from Super Night Riders will make an appearance in this arc of the story!
