Hey Rob Squad fam! I wanted to share something that is special to me. I never went to festivals or EDM raves until 2017 and I fell in love with the PLUR community (peace love unity and respect) to bring people together with different genre tastes and enjoy the universal language of music as well as human acceptance and feeling valued for just existing. Once I found my favorite type of house music I found my favorite DJ/Producer Chris Lake. I’ve been following him for years and in October 2023 they finally were able to pull off a historic event. It took 4 years but he and another DJ he ghost produces for named Fisher shut down Hollywood BLvd and Vine for 12,000 lucky fans for the first time in history. It was a block party for 6 hours and the last three hours were the two of them playing together for us. It was the best experience of my life and fisher is the only person I’ve seen have crown control like Freddy Mercury. During this set he actually played the yodel from this movie/ the real one. And we followed his lead and it gave me chills I will never forget. Here is the link. It’s at 1:51:40. It was the most fun I’ve ever had with 12k happy people singing and dancing together https://youtu.be/QAzo6Z2Ieag?si=WxUfhsUV3TfeSBoC

Hi Rob Squad, I’m not sure if you learned since you watched the reaction that the movie isn’t historically accurate. Freddie actually knew Brian May and Roger Taylor from school. They were all good friends. Brian and Roger shared an apartment and Freddie would crash on their couch and give them suggestions about their band, Smile. Freddie was actually the lead singer of another band at the time. He was with that other band when he had an issue with the mic stand at one of their shows and he decided to use the half mic from then on. He wanted it to be his “thing” and then he left that band and joined Brian and Roger when their lead singer left for another band called Humpy Bong. They eventually found John Deacon to play bass and the rest is history. They didn’t meet in the parking lot like in the movie. Roger has said that it took a while to find a bass player because when they were looking, the bass players either couldn’t play, but got along with the members of they could play, but didn’t get along with the members. The scenes when Freddie was in Munich were also inaccurate. Queen never stopped playing together before Live Aid the way the movie portrayed it. Roger did solo stuff without leaving the band. A lot of things were out of order in the movie regarding when certain songs were written and released etc. In the movie, We Will Rock You was created in the early 80’s when Freddie had the short hair and mustache, but it was actually released in 1977 when Freddie still had somewhat long hair and no mustache. Also, the way Freddie told the band about his AIDS was not accurate. He didn’t get diagnosed until 1987, I believe, which was 2 years after Live Aid. He told their manager, Jim “Miami Beach” first but initially kept it from the rest of the guys. Once they learned, they did everything they could to protect Freddie from all the tabloids as Freddie’s appearance began to change. After Freddie died, the bass player retired from music, but Brian and Roger continued to work together over the years and have been touring with Adam Lambert singing lead since 2012. Brian and Roger decided to be involved in the movie, so they could control the narrative before someone else made a movie about Freddie that would be completely wrong, so they are still protecting him. Some fun facts about the movie: The actor who played Freddie and the actress who played Mary fell in love and became a real couple. It was sweet seeing them at the award shows together. The Truck Driver that catches Freddie’s eye while on a pay phone talking to Mary is Adam Lambert. He is the singer that Brian and Roger asked to collaborate with them and they have been touring together since 2012 playing all the classic Queen songs. They have been able to play the same stadiums that they played 40 years ago. Brian and Roger are still really enjoying it. Some fans will never see the band without Freddie, but there are plenty of fans who want to hear Queen music live and they are selling out stadiums 50 years after the band started, which is incredible. The first thing they filmed was the Live Aid concert sequence and the actors watched the real Live Aid video over and over again so they could get all the movements exact and they worked with a body movement specialist to get everything correct. The real Brian May and Roger Taylor were the executive music producers for the movie and were on set a lot. They have said that the Live Aid sequence was so surreal because they recreated it to look exactly the way it did in 1985. Brian had said that he has seeing video of himself playing the guitar and sometimes, he couldn’t tell if it was him or if it was video of the actor playing him. The actor looks a lot like Brian. Roger and Brian were very pleased with the actor who played Freddie. They’ve said that he really embodied who Freddie was. Raimi Malek is the actor playing Freddie and he won several awards for his portrayal including a Golden Globe and an Oscar. Raimi has been to several Queen concerts and has tried to bring a lot of people that he knows to their concerts In the sequence when they were filming the recording session of Bohemian Rhapsody, the real Brian May was there playing the guitar solo when Freddie was in the booth asking him to put more feeling into it and then he would hand the guitar to the actor to get those shots of him telling Freddie he’d play it again with more feeling. Both Brian and Roger were on set to help their counterparts with the guitar and drums. A lot of people don’t like the movie, but I love it. I have seen a lot of documentaries about Queen, so when I watched the movie, I knew what wasn’t accurate, so I didn’t mind and I enjoyed the movie. If you want to learn more about Queen, I would suggest checking out some documentaries. These are the days of our lives is a great one to start with. Also on Netflix, there is a documentary of what happened with the band after Freddie passed called The Show Must Go On. I would also recommend watching Rami Malik winning the Oscar, his speech was really good.
