For me, the only Mel Brook's movie I tend to like is Young Frankenstein (also starring Gene Wilder). You should put that on the list. Otherwise, he only manages to get a few chuckles out of me from time to time. There's some good gags in there. But on the whole, his films just don't work for me that well. One thing about this film in particular I'm not fond of is the 4th-wall breaking ending. Not as anticlimactic as Monty Python and the Holy Grail and its non-ending, but still leaves me unsatisfied. This is a film that I do like to use to call out the hypocrisy of film and comedy snobs who like to belittle a certain class of humor: the fart joke. I know many comedy film buffs roll their eyes when Eddie Murphy or a kids animated movie does a fart joke. I've managed to shut up a couple by pointing out, "And yet, somehow you find Blazing Saddles a brilliant comedy." Sorry, but as far as fart jokes go, I didn't find the one in this film very funny. A one note joke played out too long for it's own good. But I still find it hypocritical for the snobs who laud this film as a classic and comedy gold to give it a pass, and trash other movies for also including (better) fart jokes.

With Halloween coming up, I have you watch a couple of Mel Brooks films. Either Young Frankenstein or Dracula: Dead and Loving It.

As a young Irish kid, I loved the hate. No explanation is needed. I was a part of it. I got to join in on the crazy and it made me understand that we're all the same and that you only looked like an Ass if you hated other people. The movie was the great equalizer on the playgrounds. And yes, this movie was my Terrance and Philip: Asses of Fire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b19CN_V6P9E
