2023-02-19 19:21:46 I heard an interview once with Spielberg who admitted that they wanted M&M's for the candy but Mars candy did not wanted to be associated with this unknown Spielberg director and did not have confidence the film would succeed. It grossed over 700 million in the box office alone. Someone at Mars probably lost their job! Rob, Old Spice came out in 1937!!! One site online I read that E.T.'s voice was a combination of racoon, otters, and the voice of a elder woman who smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day! So you were on the right track with your guesses of a rabbit scream.

When E.T. was released I was 18 and I waited in a line for over an hour that wrapped around the theater. We were all buzzing about what little we knew about this movie. I was right by an exit to the biggest theater when the previous viewing got out. The guys were choking back emotion and the girls were still dabbing their eyes. All were saying yup, good movie!! I saw it 4 times in the theater, whenever I was able to talk someone in to seeing it with me for the first time. The movie Gandhi came out the same year and won best picture, had it not, E.T. might have gone home with 5 instead of 4 academy awards.
