This may actually be my least favorite film of the series. Which speaks well of the franchise, since I still think it's a good solid movie that I have no problem revisiting. But from here on out, it gets deep and more than a little dark. Coming from an adaptation of books where there was plan for the overall story that was stuck to (much like Lord of the Rings) is the reasons it's one of the few film series that actually got better as the movies progressed. In fact, I think the only non-adapted series that's consistently gotten better over time is probably the Mission Impossible films. Deep Cut Alert: Before any of the Harry Potter movies came out, I had to watch a movie called Thunderpants. I can't go as far as to declare it a good movie, but way, way better than I ever expected a film about a kid with hyper-flatulence could ever be. Surprisingly artistic and sweet for an 87 minute fart joke. Anyway, Rupert Grint (a.k.a. Ron Weasley) played the protagonist's kid-genius inventor friend. Consequently I spent the whole first Potter film thinking "Hey, that IS the little ginger kid from Thunderpants. I know it."

It's not shown in every movie, but in each book, he returns to the Dursleys every summer. There is a reason for this, but you won't learn that until much later in the series.
