Guys, after LOTR you’re going to want to watch The Hobbit. Please, please, please watch the 1977 animated Hobbit first. It’s so much truer to the books and the spirit. Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy is fun and magical and majestic like his LOTR movies; but they are still his stories and not quite what The Hobbit was supposed to be. Definitely watch the Hobbit trilogy, you will love it; but watch the animated movie first.

2023-02-19 19:25:29 Still makes me sad that Guillermo Del Toro didn't get to make The Hobbit, per the original plan for the live action adaptions. One major problem I have with that trilogy, aside from being over-stuffed and indulgent, is that it was saddled with the burden of being a prequel to LOTR. So they added in extraneous stuff about The Necromancer and tried to tie into that lore of the other movies, and ended up losing the core of the Hobbit, which was much more light-hearted adventure. The Rank & Bass animated film mentioned above manages to be more in that tone.
