Crete and his friend shot the man in the bar, not just for lying. He crawfished a bet and called Crete a liar. This is a gambling town, You don't crawfish a bet and call the other person a liar.

Another great western I highly recommend is 'Once Upon a time in the west'. It's from 1968 but one of the all time best in my opinion

Hi! The actor playing Doc Holiday is Val Kilmer. He played Iceman on Top Gun as Tom Cruise’s nemesis. I absolutely love his performance as Doc in this movie. A lot of people believe he stole the show.
