I get what you were saying about Angela. I concur to a point. I took it that 'meant to be with' was her chosen terminology based on who Temperance has feelings for and not the logical choice that she is making to protect herself from getting hurt. Hacker is a terribly nice guy, but is quite clearly a narrative stooge. There are two types of these transparent plot devices, and Bader does a magnificent job with his role. He is a charming addition to the supporting cast, I like him quite a lot. Just because they are formulaic doesn't mean I don't enjoy the journey. Seems to me that the repetitive path that is often taken, is the troublesome bad guy, we all know it wrong for our lead. Or the overly nice sweet guy that is perfect on paper, but will never win the heart of the protagonist. Brennan has had a string of these safe choices that won't present a risk of fracturing that walled off heart.
