So I absolutely love the scene between the boys in the warehouse. But I will forever be kinda sad that the solution to Sam's hallucinations was self harm... It makes sense though. The Winchester family are not good at coping mechanisms... What other solution would they have come up with?

I think it was the best the writers could come up with for Sam to separate the hallucinations from the real world. I think it works very well and is true to the show and characters. I understand how this could be a difficult subject for some, but it is better than the alternative for Sam in this situation and is not shown as a positive for any other reason.
