1.3 - THE BASE VIOLENCE NECESSARY FOR CHANGE

So I was so in shock that I dont think I was able to put words together. This was the most tragic thing I've seen in a long time. Even though it would be very easy to hate Powder, I just find it really hard and idk if this is one of those things people are divided on or if its unanimous. Powder is not only a child but a very traumatized one. You can tell from her breakdown in the room that she is incredibly frustrated and desperate and in her mind she was going to be her sister's hero. Now I know that Vi also went through hell and some might think she'd never do something this stupid, but not everyone handles trauma the same. Also, when Powder arrived all she saw was a scary monster trying to hurt her family. I doubt she knew the blast would be this bad, or that it would be multiple blasts. Honestly, it was very unlucky for Vander and the kids to be in that closed room because it looks like most of Silco's peeps were able to survive it. She never saw Silco before this and so she doesn't know he's the one who tried to kill Vander so to her this is just someone who consoled her during a severe mental breakdown. Do I agree with her actions? No, she should have listened to Vi - but she's a child who wants to prove to her sister that she can survive, that she's not a burden and its so heartbreaking that it all ended this way. Then Vi walks away from her while she was having what looked like a psychotic break and so it makes sense that she would suddenly resent her because she's no longer thinking clearly. I really think the Powder we knew is gone.  Also love the fact that they switched things up because on any other show this would be the moment of Powder's triumph. Where she saves everyone and suddenly becomes a hero - but no, this is the exact moment where she becomes a villain. Its fantastic.

The parallels with Silco, ugh. ALSO, whoever does the voice acting for Powder is phenomenal! Holy crap

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

The ending breaks my heart. And yes, I love the expressiveness of the animation. You can see the war of emotions on Vi's face: rage at Powder for what she did against Vi's love for her little sister.
