Your discussion about Brennan acting like a "strong, independent woman" was great. This happens all the time in movies. In order for a woman to show how strong she is, she constantly needs to do thing that risk her life and lack all common sense. Someone is out to murder you? Well, this independent woman is going to take an extra long stroll through an abandoned building at night, probably without a phone, just to show that one guy who told her to be careful. And then she will be saved by someone else, endangered their lives in the process, and still the "strong woman" will continue this pattern until the guy tells her how he always amired her strenght. Im just... GAH. I can live with many cliche movie plots and stereotypes, but writers who can't see the difference between brave and stupid because the hero has boobs... Nope.
