D Boss

It is an amazing show, isn't it... It gets better: lots of intrigue, suspense, action and of course twists yet to come!

Caradoc Elmet

The stalker is suffering from a mental illness. He really believes she loves him and they're dating and she's "playing games" when she says she isn't interested. You can't just say, "Read the room, dude, she's not interested," and expect him to get it. It's a delusion that has taken him over. The more he tries to live out his delusion, the more strongly she tries to push him away and the more likely he is to become violent. His world view is being threatened by her not playing along and his broken mind will try to defend itself. He's a victim of his delusion as much as she is. Obviously, most of my sympathies lie with the lady and if the only way to protect her is to take out the delusional man, then I'm going to pull the trigger every time. I do have sympathy for him though. He needs serious psychiatric help but anyone who knows the situation and what he is putting the lady through will only see him as a bad guy. It's unlikely anyone will see him as a person who needs help. If there was a way for the legal system to forcibly commit him and make him get the therapy he needs it would help everyone, but I can't see a law like that ever being passed. I had a situation, maybe 20 years ago, with a girl called Debbie, who thought we were dating. She was a friend of a friend and she was stranded in a city called Hull one night. She lived in nearby Hornsea but it was around 2am and there were no buses running at night. I offered her a couch for the night at my mother's house and she could catch the Hornsea bus from the end of my mother's road the next morning. I slept on a separate couch, made toast for her in the morning and said goodbye to her at the door. That, as far as I was concerned, was the extent of our relationship. Two days later she turns up on my mother's doorstep, saying she's my girlfriend. I couldn't get rid of her for 3 months and I really tried. One day, a guy comes up to me in a bar and tells me he's dating the girl now and she's told him all about how I've been stalking her and pestering her and he wants me to leave her alone. Later she finds me herself and returns a sweater of mine that I didn't know was missing. She says she's been sleeping with it "when I wasn't with her" but she doesn't need it anymore because she's dating a new guy. About 3 weeks later she stabs him in the arm with a carving knife and gets committed under the mental health act. At no point did I think to try to get her help. I knew she was delusional but she was causing so much chaos in my life that I couldn't raise an ounce of sympathy to see she really needed help. I just hated her. She had to actually attack someone before any help came her way. The guy was fine, by the way. He had a scar but nothing too serious as far as I heard. First order of business, in the scenario presented in this POI episode, is to protect the lady. The second solves the first: get the delusional dude some proper help. I have to feel sorry for them both, personally. Her a little more than him, but still I feel for both of them.

I really enjoyed reading his. Thank you for sharing your story with me, it means a lot. I'm sorry that you experienced something like that but I'm glad that you were able to survive it.
