I think the fair criticism towards Damon's actions is that once again he took control and made calls about Jo's life when he has no right to do so... Once again he made unilateral plans that directly risked her life and made choices for her and for others; It's the good old theme about Damon not respecting other peoples choices and free will I agree that it is on character, we know that he does this and that he is selfish, short sided about others in general and impulsive... But that is still very much open the heavy criticism; I would be surprised if Ric or Jo or any of them just brush over the fact that Damon made life and death decisions for them (which of course I say that with a little bit of sarcasm given the fact that it only took 1 episode for Ric to sit around to drink with Damon again and practically forgive and forget).

Damon is going to pick the people he cares about over anyone else...Jo, Luke and EoreLiv are pretty much strangers......Liz is his friend and he doesn't care about the others.
