Actually I don't think it's "convenient" about the number of witches to be sacrificed. It was probably determined first due to the fact that there is a lot of folklore listing 12 as the number of witches in a coven. (with 1 devil to lead them *cough* Silas/Shane) Otherwise, why did they pick the number 12 cause it has no significance to humans or hybrids.

I agree 100% about Bonnie. I felt the same way. The show has been doing it all along. In 1x14 she convinces her Grams to open the tomb which okay fine. But when Stefan got stuck in the tomb it was BONNIE who insisted they lift the seal. Grams wasn't going to do it until Bonnie said she'd do it herself. Grams knew Bonnie would die if she channeled all that power on her own, so Grams helped which resulted in her death. She has never taken any responsibility for that and blames it solely on Damon. Then there is the Caroline becoming a vampire thing it was BONNIE who insisted Damon give Caroline blood to heal her but then when Caroline turned and Bonnie found out she again blamed it all on Damon going so far as to set him on fire. There are several other examples but yeah in this episode where she doesn't remember anything is a cop-out.
