Walter was saying that ideas can be absorbed by ozmosis, by proximity, etc. He also said the Observer pulled Walter and Peter out of the water and at that time he put the idea into Walter's head that one day Walter would be needed to do a favour for the Observer. So, Peter was right there when the Observer "transmitted" these ideas. I think we are supposed to assume that Peter absorbed the message at the same time Walter did. When Walter examined the capsule it was as if "an envelope opened in [his] mind" and he was able to read the instructions: where to bury the capsule. essentially. The implication is that those instructions were transmitted to Walter back then but were dormant until triggered when Walter later examined the capsule. If that is the case, and if we assume that Peter also absorbed the message, then the burial coordinates were also absorbed by Peter's mind. That Peter was unaware of this doesn't seem to matter because the guy who kidnapped him (Mark from POI, right?) had a device that read the info during Peter's interrogation. I know you're a couple of seasons ahead now so it probably doesn't matter to you any longer but you asked so I figured I'd share my thoughts, based only on what I got from this episode. I've seen the full series more than once but I will always be careful to avoid spoilers if I make a comment.

Joshua actually had to go to hospital after shooting the interrogation scene. As those wires had accidentally been pushed to far up his nose.
