Reid's relationship with his Mum is adorable! Probably my favourite relationship between someone on the team with someone who isn't on the team. It's so painful in so many ways, but so beautiful. <333 Poor Elle. I can't imagine having the last words I said to my dead parent be "I hate you." My mum died last year (2020 SUCKED!) and I can't imagine knowing that the last thing we shared was an "I hate you." It hurt when Hotch just thanked Reid after he and Garcia figured out the book. Cuz I get why he was upset with her and all, but she still helped and it just hurt! :'( Everyone's reactions to Elle being shot were so sad! Gideon and Hotch with their guilt (and Anderson was CRYING! Poor Anderson!) Morgan immediately wanting to go to the hospital. Gideon trying to convince himself that he did the right thing and that Elle would understand was so heartbreaking! Because, yes, he was doing his job and it did draw him out. Just not in the way he was hoping for. He didn't know Elle was gonna get shot. And you're right that if she'd died he never would've forgiven himself. Gideon gets very emotionally involved in all the cases he works, and so having it be someone he knows and cares about getting hurt is just awful for him. :(

I love this two parter so much... not only is it a super interesting case and I live for the sort of quest "aesthetic", but I also feel like it does so much for every single character. From Garcia messing up for once and getting "punished" for it, to the backstory of Reid and Elle with their respective parents, to Morgan showing how protective he is of Elle, to JJ proving that she is super levelheaded when Morgan wants to turn the car around, to Hotch cleaning the blood from Elle's wall and Gideon staying in the hospital with her bc they both feel responsible.... it's such a big episode and I loved your reaction to it :)
