Kelly Parks

James Bond is a male archetype. He represents a quality all men aspire to: competence. He's good at everything he does.

Kelly Parks

Misogyny isn't the right word. Neither the character nor the filmmakers hated women. They loved women and many women were huge fans of these movies. But this male/female (certainly exaggerated) dynamic was considered normal for the time.

Kelly Parks

Odd Job is one of the best villain henchman ever.

Kelly Parks

Because I'm a numbers geek: Goldfinger's 30 million British Pounds in 1964, adjusted for inflation, would be worth over 600 million today (about $800 million US).

Kelly Parks

Also, the 5,000 British pounds would be over 100,000 pounds today. But, an actual gold bar is 400 oz. of gold (about 12.5 kilos). At today's spot price ($1,870/ounce) the gold bar is worth $748,000.

Kelly Parks

If cars blew up that easily I wouldn't get near them.

Kelly Parks

Bond's game of chicken was with a mirror. The headlights were his own.

Kelly Parks

Great line. "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die."

Kelly Parks

Her: "My name is Pussy Galore." You: "What?!" Your face was priceless!

Kelly Parks

Saying she was immune to his charms was a 1964 way to say she was a lesbian.

Kelly Parks

It would have been cool if one of the gangsters said, "Hey, wait a minute! You're just using us to deliver exposition!"

Kelly Parks

His plan is rather brilliant. Taking all the gold in Fort Knox off the market would make the remaining gold in the world much more valuable.

Kelly Parks

"Are you allowed to get that close to Ft. Knox?" No, absolutely not. It's an Army base. So highly restricted airspace. They would have been shot down.

Kelly Parks

By the way, consider that the Red Chinese (as they were referred to at the time) facilitate (almost) detonating a nuke on American soil. That was 100% an Act of War.

Kelly Parks

If the gas had worked all 60,000 soldiers and civilians in Ft. Knox would have died. That was nerve gas.

Kelly Parks

Great reaction. I'm glad you just had fun with it.

Eric Pfeiffer

Thanks for doing this reaction, it was a lot of fun. Each version of 007 has his own flavor and each one had good movies and bad ones. It's good that you can watch this movie with the understanding that times have changed and not let it ruin your enjoyment of the film. Bond Girls are often thought of as simply sex objects but the fact is that most of them brought some valuable skill to the table. Connery's Bond was definitely the roughest with women and it can be uncomfortable to watch now. His successors were much less rape-y. I grew up with these movies and I think I adopted Roger Moore's "charming and funny" approach to getting the girl. because of course I wanted to be James Bond. LOL Since you like fun facts---the actor who played Q was in every movie beginning with the second movie From Russia With Love and ending with The World Is Not Enough (where he announced his replacement, played by John Cleese). Sadly he died before the release of his last film.

Right? I lived on an Army Base and they have very strict rules about unauthorized flying, not to mention that Fort Knox is more secured than your average one.

nostalgicgirl

Yeah he's a bit aggressive but that has a lot to do with the times because I remember that Daniel Craig is not like that, idk. But I don't get offended or anything because I understand the setting and everything. I love facts. I read that Orson Wells was considered to play Goldfinger but he ended up being too expensive. Also love John Cleese, so sad he passed away.
