I've spent too much time thinking about why the movie lingered so long on that dog, but I think it makes sense. There's a metaphor there but it's undermined by a few things. The dogs are the red laces, and the Dog Handler is Darcy/other neo nazi leaders. The red laces are loyal to those that mistreat them or put them in harms way because at least they feel like they belong. However, the Dog Handler feels too much like the mini boss that Werm wasn't and also, it's too much message for such a thin thread. It's punks fighting nazis, not punks fighting nazis but if the nazis just had a better environment...
